For many investors, these precious metals serve not primarily as high-return investments but as a form of financial insurance during times of uncertainty. At the same time, industrial manufacturers are increasingly turning to rare minerals as assets, driven by trade restrictions and national security concerns, which in turn fuels policy-driven demand.
So, what does this financial landscape reveal about the direction of the U.S. economy? And should we all consider investing in gold and silver?

Following his speech, Trump traveled to Egypt for a peace summit with leaders from Turkey, Jordan, Britain, Germany, France, and Italy. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas attended; Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, did not participate.

The following year, the city made a drastic change: It dismantled its entire city police department and established the Camden County Police Department. The former department had faced allegations of corruption and mismanagement for decades.

Speaking at Quantico before the nation’s top brass, Hegseth argued that the military had lost its way due to an overemphasis on DEI initiatives. He announced a return to strict grooming standards and fitness requirements, even if that means excluding women and what he called “weak” men.

- Tonight at 12:01 a.m., the federal government is set to shut down unless Congressional Republicans and Democrats can reach a funding agreement. As of now, both sides remain at an impasse.
Republicans need support from a handful of Senate Democrats to reach the 60-vote threshold required to pass a temporary funding bill, a continuing resolution (CR), that would extend current federal funding levels into November. But Democrats have their own conditions: they want to see an extension of Obamacare subsidies and a rollback of certain Medicaid cuts before they agree to sign on.
Government shutdowns are nothing new in Washington. In 2018, during President Donald Trump’s first term, the nation endured a 34-day shutdown—the longest in U.S. history. If no deal is reached this time, most federal agencies will close their doors, and nonessential workers will be furloughed. The President has also warned of potential mass firings.

Some factors include longer life expectancies, greater acceptance of divorce, and women’s greater financial independence, along with higher expectations for marriage or partnership (to be best friends, lovers, co-parents and equal in labor and support).
On this episode of Studio 2, we also explore the consequences of this trend. While younger generations are marrying less, older adults who divorce face greater financial and health impacts. Men are more likely to lose their social networks after divorce, which can have a negative impact on life expectancy.

- In 1776, Philadelphia’s population of about 35,000 consumed millions of oysters a year. The colonial city was riddled with taverns and street vendors who sold oysters on the half shell. Residents could wade into the Delaware River, before it became industrialized, and pull oysters out of the water by hand.
Leftover shells were used to pave streets and packed into the hulls of freight ships as weight ballasts. They were burned for their lime and used to make mortar for Philadelphia’s early brick buildings.

- Are you shocked by your electric bill? Rates are expected to keep rising across our region. AI data centers are straining the power grid, some say, leaving consumers to foot the bill.
PJM, the nation’s largest electric grid operator, serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and several other states, projects that AI alone could consume 5,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually. To meet that demand, we would need to build the equivalent of five nuclear power plants every year.
Some experts argue that PJM has been too slow in approving new power projects. Additionally, President Trump’s rollback of renewable energy initiatives has further stalled the growth of new energy production.

- President Donald Trump says his administration has an “answer to autism.” At a White House press conference on Monday, the president, joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., linked autism to acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, when taken during pregnancy. Trump advised pregnant women to “fight like hell not to take it” except in extreme cases. RFK Jr. added that the FDA will begin issuing recommendations to physicians and update safety labeling.
On Monday, the FDA itself was far more measured in its messaging. It sent a letter to doctors, noting: “while an association between acetaminophen and autism has been described in many studies, a causal relationship has not been established and there are contrary studies in the scientific literature.”

For years women have been told they could have it all – a fulfilling work and home life. Remember Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg telling moms to “lean in” to career and family. But over a decade later, many mothers are finding it’s too difficult to balance both.
So, why are women, particularly young mothers, quitting and putting their careers on hold? And what’s driving the change? In-office mandates? Rising child care costs? Changing family priorities? Something else?

In 1776, there were more than 120 taverns, inns and “ordinaries” in Philadelphia, not counting illegal serving houses. With an estimated population between 30,000 and 40,000 people, that amounts to an enormous number of bars per capita.
A Man Full of Trouble is Philadelphia’s last remaining example of colonial bar culture that birthed the American Revolution.

Senator Rand Paul called Trump’s decision for the government to take a 10% stake in Intel a step toward socialism, while Democratic socialist Senator Bernie Sanders praised the plan. Add in Trump’s tariffs, the “Golden Share” in Nippon’s U.S. Steel deal, and other examples of government interference in private companies, and traditional free-market conservatives are growing uneasy.
While most people agree this isn’t socialism in the classic sense, Trumponomics is starting to look more like “state capitalism,” where the government steers a lot of private industry decisions.

- New data from the Nation’s Report Card reveals troubling trends: 12th-graders are performing worse in math and reading, and 8th-graders are falling behind in science, a continuation of trends that started before the pandemic. The report from the National Center for Education Statistics shows that while top-performing students continue to excel, lower-performing students, the majority, are slipping even further behind. The report also highlights a rise in student absenteeism across the board.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon called the findings “devastating.” Some say cuts to jobs and programs at the Department of Education under her leadership won’t help, as President Donald Trump tasks her with dismantling the department altogether.

- Should Democrats abandon so-called “woke” language? That’s what a memo from the center-left think tank Third Way suggests as a way to appeal to more voters.
Titled “Was It Something I Said?”, the memo argues that elected Democrats don’t sound like regular people anymore. Instead, they rely on “therapy speak,” “organizer jargon”, and “seminar room language” advanced by special interest groups. Third Way lists 45 words for Democratic politicians and activists to avoid, including: privilege, triggering, birthing person, unhoused, and systems of oppression.
But if liberals give up this language, are they also giving up on their values of inclusion? Is language really the reason Democrats are failing to connect with voters, or is this debate a distraction from bigger problems?
