- The early lighting of a Moygashel bonfire with a replica mosque placed on top of it has been labelled “attention-seeking” by a local councillor after it was set alight before the PSNI could remove the effigy.
SDLP councillor Karol McQuade said it’s unclear what will happen this evening when the traditional bonfire night was set to take place.
He told the BBC: “The people of Moygashel who had set up the bonfire believed it was important they get their bonfire lit. It’s just turned into a bit of a circus every year. You had the boat last year, the mosque this year, and it seems to be attention seeking and trying to get a reaction and publicity.”
Meanwhile, TUV councillor Ron McDowell said he’s disappointed in the policing operation.
“It has been a bad one for me and a bad one for the community,” he said.

- The Moygashel bonfire in Co Tyrone, which contained a replica mosque, has been set alight early.
A small rally was held in the village by residents at around 10pm last night.
Shortly after 11:30pm a decision was taken to set the bonfire alight after reports contractors were to move in on the site.
Police officers arrived on the road when the bonfire was lit, before being goaded and told to leave the area.
A 56-year-old man has been charged with incitement to hatred in relation to the placing of the replica mosque on the bonfire.
In a statement, police say they had “commenced a significant and complex policing operation to remove a hate display from the Moygashel bonfire", adding it "was at an advanced stage when the bonfire was lit."
“Had the bonfire not been lit, police would have secured the site and removed the offending material and seized it as evidence," the statement continued.

A man has been arrested over the erection of a replica of a mosque on top of a bonfire in Moygashel with a loyalist source in the area warning that any attempt to move in on the bonfire will result in a thousands-strong ‘stand-off’.
Paramilitary flags remain flying on streets and some bonfires across Northern Ireland just weeks after the PSNI were legally given powers to remove them. An amendment to the Terrorism Act means that police have the power, but not necessarily the duty, to remove paramilitary flags and banners.

Paul McClarey told us how he was put into care and, later in life, began searching for his birth mother only to discover she had died 10 years earlier, aged only 29 herself.
He told us: “People often describe me as a little boy who’s still looking for his mummy.
"My mum was an 18-year-old girl from Derry who found herself pregnant and unmarried in the 60s and she was sent to Marionville mother and baby institution on the Ormeau Road.
"She ended up being homeless and living on the streets of Belfast and that’s a profound trauma for me."

- Jeffrey Donaldson has been found guilty of 18 historical sex offences, including one count of rape, 13 of indecent assault and four of gross indecency.
The offences were against two women when they were children. His wife Eleanor Donaldson has been found to have committed the acts relating to offences of aiding and abetting following a trial of the facts.
The leaders of the UUP and TUV immediately called for the Donaldsons to be stripped of their titles.
Jeffrey Donaldson has been taken to Maghaberry prison to start his sentence.
