- Iran has fired multiple waves of missiles at northern Israel, for the first time since the ceasefire was agreed in April.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it was the beginning of a week of continuous strikes.
Most of the missiles appear to have been intercepted, and Israelis have now been told they can leave shelter. There are no immediate reports of injuries.
A military spokesman for Israel said Iran had made a “grave mistake”.
Earlier, Israel said it struck Hezbollah targets in southern Beirut, prompting threats of an Iranian response.
Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Wyre Davies and John Sudworth.

- When Twitch streamer Hasan Piker was denied entry into the UK this week, it rekindled a conversation around the Home Office's approach to free speech. From Kanye West to Valentina Gomez, the list of prominent names who have seen their travel plans derailed in recent months is growing, with commentators across the political spectrum accusing the government of overreaching. Piker, whose highly critical stance on Israel has led to disputed allegations of antisemitism, says he is being targeted for his position on the war in Gaza.
On this episode, Matt and Marianna explain why many young people in particular are outraged by the decision, and consider whether some of his more inflammatory comments should be considered less extreme in the amplified environment of social media.
Top Comment is hosted by Marianna Spring and Matt Shea.

Laura is joined by former BBC legal and home affairs correspondent and Labour home affairs advisor Danny Shaw to discuss.

- Does Ukraine have the weapons to keep fighting Russia? | Global News Podcast

- Description
- As Vladimir Putin held his annual economic forum in St Petersburg this week, Ukraine carried out strikes on the city, and on ships in the Sea of Azov - proving once again that it can hit targets deep within Russian territory. Ukraine's increasing ability to launch long and mid-range drone attacks, using relatively inexpensive ordinance, has given them a new edge in the war, analysts say.
But the BBC's Vitaly Shevchenko tells us that Kyiv desperately needs more weapons - particularly US-made Patriot missile systems, which are now in short supply as a result of the US-Israeli war with Iran.
As Mr Putin talks up Russia's economic power, we ask what resources Ukraine needs to keep fighting.
On Friday, Vladimir Putin rejected Volodymyr Zelensky's call for face-to-face talks, saying there was as "no point" in holding such a meeting until peace agreements had been reached. He thanked US President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the conflict, but s...

The World Meteorological Organization said El Niño is “very likely” to officially begin within the next few months, driving more extreme weather around much of the globe.
Several forecasts from national weather agencies suggest this El Niño could end up as one of the strongest ever recorded, nicknamed by some as a possible “super” or even “Godzilla” event.
Yet El Niño is not just a climate story - throughout history, this recurring weather pattern has helped shape global events, triggering everything from famines and revolutions to impacting the Cold War.
In this episode, we speak to historian Peter Frankopan, Professor of Global History at Oxford, to discuss what historical El Niños tell us about what could be coming our way, and how we ca...

- Sir Gareth Southgate has said apprenticeships ‘have become a dirty word’ as he looks to tackle the issues facing young men when it comes to education and work.
Speaking to the Today programme about his new documentary, 'Changing the Game for Young Men', the former England men’s football manager said the issue is “complex” and pointed out that a lack of positive male role models can lead to boys looking elsewhere for guidance.
Sir Gareth also talked about the lack of vocational skills offered to those looking for less academic careers and said that a lot of young people are unable to gain the “work readiness” skills employers look for due to a decline in casual jobs.
The former footballer was also asked about England’s World Cup prospects, enthusing that he gets to “become an England fan again” after standing down as manager in 2024.
