“Even a best-case scenario is a pretty bad scenario for the next months to come,” Dan Jorgensen said at a Wednesday press conference in Brussels.
With uncertainty surrounding negotiations and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz — the world’s most critical oil transport route — Jorgensen said we could see negative impacts in the market “for years,” comparing the situation to similar crises which took place in 1973 and 2022.
“If we imagine that there is peace tomorrow, it will still take — for instance, Qatar — probably two years, maybe even more, to rebuild their gas production and transportation infrastructure," Jorgensen said, noting the Energy Commission still won’t consider importing even “one molecule” of Russian energy going forward.

Sustainability also includes the kinds of chemicals being used by brands and whether they pay fair wages to their employees.

Meanwhile, Pakistan — who is acting as mediator — had cleared out a luxury hotel in the capital of Islamabad for last-ditch peace talks on Tuesday, in the hopes of reaching a deal in the final hours before a two-week-old ceasefire expired.
Iran, however, never confirmed it would attend, and a U.S. delegation led by Vice President JD Vance never departed Washington, leaving an apparent stalemate in the nearly two-month war and no clear solution to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

- Poilievre slams Carney for distracting Canadians from his "costly failures" by "pushing fear"
- Date posted
- Description
- Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said on Monday that Prime Minister Mark Carney is "pushing fear" in a recent address to Canadians on the relationship with the U.S.
In a video posted to social media, Poilievre said, "It's not surprising that the prime minister wants to distract from his costly failures by pushing fear and re-upping his rhetoric yesterday."
"Illusions are not reality," he said and added that "We cannot control what the U.S. does, to be fair, but we can control what we do to make Canada affordable and autonomous here at home."
This comes after Carney said on Sunday that Canada must address “weaknesses” created by its close ties to the United States, warning the country can no longer rely on its largest trading partner.

- Conservative MP and co-deputy leader, Melissa Lantsman, rose in the House of Commons during question period on Monday, focusing on rising inflation numbers released earlier in the day.
“In March, Canada had the worst food inflation in the G7… Every G7 country faces the same global factors, yet Canadians are paying more than all of them… Canadians now lead the G7 in household debt, housing costs, and food inflation.”
Liberal Minister of National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne shot back, saying the IMF (International Monetary Fund) said “Canada has the strongest fiscal position of the G7.”
Lantsman also took aim at Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“He has the power to green light major projects, build pipelines, but zero have been approved while keeping every anti-development law on the books. Over a trillion (dollars) in net investment gone from the country… more speeches and more agreements to make agreements,”...
