- Almost 6 years after Canada legalized cannabis, most users buying from legal sources
- Date posted

- Description
- It's been almost six years since Canada legalized cannabis across the country and there's new data from Statistics Canada looking at where Canadians are buying their products.
The data found that more than one third of those 18-44 and one in seven adults 45 and older used cannabis in 2023, and among those who had, 71.7 per cent bought exclusively from legal sources. Product safety was among the biggest reason, with convenience and a desire to follow the law also cited.
As Sean Previl reports, cannabis advocates say the data is "exciting," but some health-care professionals are concerned more study into the products' affects on the body still needs to be done.

Similarly, a UN-backed report suggests famine is imminent, particularly in north Gaza.
Though he echoed that the situation is dire, World Food Programme Chief Economist Arif Husain said that this can be averted if aid is supplied to more than 300,000 starving Palestinians in northern Gaza “as soon as possible.”
If action is not taken immediately, Husain said famine could strike “any time from now [March 18] until the end of May."

- A Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by United Airlines flew Friday with a large part of its exterior missing, according to the airline, marking the latest in a series of malfunctions to plague the manufacturer.
The flight from San Francisco to Oregon landed safely, but upon arrival crews discovered a broken exterior panel on the 25-year-old aircraft.
According to a statement from United Airlines, no emergency had been declared and the missing piece was not discovered until all 139 passengers and six crew members safely disembarked from the plane.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says it has launched an investigation into the incident. It marks the seventh reported incident involving a Boeing plane just this week.
Global’s Joe Scarpelli is joined by Capt. Richard J. Levy, Former Commercial Pilot and Aviation Expert, to discuss recent issues with Boeing airplanes that have raised concerns about reliability and safety....

Protesters sang the national anthem and carried anti-government placards, with some reading "You will not stop us" and "Election now!"
Some protesters called for the government to do more for the hostages taken by Hamas into Gaza during the Oct. 7 attack.
"We're here to protest this government that hasn't been acting for the majority of people in Israel for a while now, especially since the beginning of the war. Whether it's the hostages or whether it's creating more tension between Arabs and Jewish people, we think it's actively harming us during the war and beyond it," said protester Zack Zigdon.

- Riam El-Safadi, a medical logistics co-ordinator volunteer for Vancouver Aid, recently spoke to Global News about his experience of entering Gaza with two suitcases of medical aid supplies to help those in desperate need in the region.
El-Safadi said he gathered medical supplies from hospitals around B.C. that no longer meet Canadian standards.
The journey into Gaza is a long and difficult one that “has to be co-ordinated with the United Nations (UN)” and “approval from the three involving countries” as well as patience because it “takes 12-14 hours to get there due to a lot of security checks,” El-Safadi said.
Once in the country, El-Safadi says hospitals “are in dire need — all of them — even now.” He added, “They thanked me so much you could see the tears in their eyes.”

- There has been a sharp rise in car thefts and home invasions in the Greater Toronto Area. Would leaving your car key by the front door make a difference?
A Toronto Police officer suggested that to residents, seemingly to avoid break-ins turning violent.
One Toronto-area resident who recounted his own violent home invasion said this isn't the solution. He said that doesn't work when you've got top-notch anti-theft measures.
"And then having those people get the keys and not being able to steal my car successfully, forcing them to come up and put a Glock 9 mm to my head, that's not a good solution," Peter told Global News.
