Within 20 minutes the temperature in the property was 1000 degrees centigrade causing windows to blow out.
Rhona Schofield and Vikki Preston were best friends whose lives were tragically cut short in a suspicious house fire in Salford 20 years ago. Despite multiple arrests and a £50,000 reward, no one has ever been charged. Today, their families continue to fight for justice.
We sat down with Neal Keeling, who first covered the case 21 years ago and has continued to report on the fire and the families’ fight for justice ever since.

The Government has also announced it is preparing a second vessel, the landing ship RFA Lyme Bay, for potential deployment if the crisis deepens.
The Mandelson files are also due to be released after PMQs this afternoon which could cause renewed chaos for the Prime Minister.

- Description
- Keir Starmer attended Prime Minister's Questions today, March 11, as the UK's first warship, HMS Dragon, has been sent to RAF Akrotiri.
Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch told the Prime Minister the proposed hike at the start of September would worsen cost-of-living pressures faced by drivers. The Government’s current plans mean drivers will pay a penny more per litre in tax at the pump in less than six months.
The RAC’s head of policy said on Wednesday that diesel prices have already risen by nearly nine per cent since February 28. Meanwhile, petrol prices are on average six per cent more across the same period, RAC Fuel Watch said. Sir Keir said the situation would be kept “under review”.

According to the files, a due diligence report on his appointment found there was a “general reputational risk” over his relationship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
In an initial batch of papers, it is noted that after Epstein was first convicted of procuring an underage girl in 2008 “their relationship continued across 2009-2011, beginning when Lord Mandelson was business minister and continuing after the end of the Labour government”, noting that “Mandelson reportedly stayed in Epstein’s house while he was in jail in June 2009”.
The documents also show how Mandleson took home a £75,000 severance payment when he was sacked as Britain’s ambassador to Washington last year - but asked for more than half a million pounds.

- Description
- A north west MP has spoken publicly for the first time about her rape ordeal in a powerful speech to Parliament.
Charlotte Nichols, the MP for Warrington North, spoke during a debate about court system reforms, which could see jury trials limited to cases with a likely sentence of three years or more.
She told MPs: “Experiences like mine feel like they’ve been weaponised and are being used for rhetorical misdirection”.
In an impassioned speech, the MP for Warrington North said: “I waited 1,088 days to go to court,” and said that ‘every single one’ was agony, as she waived her right to anonymity.
“I care profoundly about rape victims facing intolerable delays for their day in court,” the MP told the House.
She said: “We have been told that if we have concerns about this Bill, it is because we have not been raped or because we don’t care enough for rape victims. The opposite is true in my case, it ...

- A Cheshire MP has spoken publicly for the first time about being raped. The Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols says she waited over 1,000 days for her case to go to court as she said experiences like hers were being "weaponised" in the debate over reforms to the justice system.
Ms Nichols has previously spoken about suffering post-traumatic disorder (PTSD) after being the victim of a crime but had never previously disclosed its nature.
She told the Commons she was waiving her right to anonymity as she disclosed she was raped "at an event I attended in my capacity as an MP."
It came as she hit out at the Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy's plans to limit jury trials to cases with a likely sentence of three years or more, as MPs debated the Courts and Tribunals Bill.
These cases would instead be heard by a single crown court judge, under the Bill's proposals. Additionally, magistrates' courts would be able to take on cases with a lik...
