Instead, national coverage has focussed on comments Mr Kenyon made on social media before he was selected as Reform UK’s candidate. Branded misogynistic, among other things, he has not responded directly. Until now.
But it’s not exactly a full-throated apology that comes when we meet at Reform’s Makerfield HQ on an industrial estate in Goose Green. In fact, there is no apology at all.
Instead, Mr Kenyon, 41, says everybody does things they ‘regret’ and admits “I'm not a polished politician”. That’s a line Reform have been putting out as they back their ‘white van man’ to the hilt.

But a day after his official selection as Labour’s candidate in the Ashton-in-Makerfield by-election, he is deadly serious.

The Makerfield candidate has come under fire over claims that he posted derogatory and sexist comments on social media. These allegedly included lewd remarks about Carol Vorderman, as well as accusing women of having abortions for ‘vanity purposes’.
The allegations have been front and centre of by-election conversation over recent days, but on the ground in Winstanley, residents are more divided – and typically along party lines.
Those supporting Labour condemned the alleged posts as ‘disgusting’ and ‘idiotic’.
However, it does not appear the alleged remarks will be enough to put off those who have already decided to back Reform, with one resident likening the alleged comments to ‘pub banter’ and others expressing scepticism about the legitimacy of the claims against Mr Kenyon.

It was too much for Guardiola. The tears arrived as a man who he has called 'his weakness' left the turf he has graced with such standards for the past nine years. The City boss dabbed at his eyes with the bottom of his crisp white tee.
