- The corruption-accused chief financial officer of the Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp in North West Mercy Phetla remains defiantly reluctant to vacate her position despite a scathing disciplinary report which found her guilty on all five charges of gross misconduct, dishonesty and dereliction of duty.
According to the report, she authorised payments of up to R6 million for services not rendered, accepted a R1.4 million VW Amarok from a municipal service provider, and brought the municipality into disrepute following her arrest and corruption charges.

- The country continues to deal with the aftermath of the Vanderbijlpark scholar transport crash that claimed the lives of 14 learners.
The 22-year-old driver has been charged with 14 counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder and has abandoned his bail application.
Authorities have since confirmed that the driver did not have a valid Professional Driving Permit at the time of the crash.
