Tuvalu, whose population numbers around 10,000, hosted a leader's gathering at last week's Pre-COP event shared with Fiji — part of a compromise struck by Australia to divide hosting rights with Türkiye.
The event came under heavy Australian media scrutiny, with shadow energy minister Dan Tehan labelling the event an "embarrassment" and a "flop" over the low number of leaders attending beyond a group from the Pacific.

Les Mousquetaires, owner of retailer Intermarché, said fridges at around 150 of its stores were heated up to 50°C for six hours overnight.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has instructed France's National Cybersecurity Agency to investigate, a spokesperson in his office said.
France is coordinating with European counterparts because other countries could also be affected, the spokesperson said, adding that authorities were assessing whether other French companies were at risk.

US defence secretary Pete Hegseth has declared that the 3 December execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, a former US Army Major who killed 13 people and wounded dozens more in a 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will be public and available to watch online.
Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young said she's written to the eSafety commissioner and communications minister, asking them to stop any livestreams of the execution and fine social media platforms that fail to block them.
One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce has also condemned the plan, calling it "Roman amphitheatre stuff".
A government spokesperson said Australians “expect that this content won't appear on their screens” and that “platforms have a responsibility to meet those expectations”.

- United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the US is sanctioning the International Criminal Court, claiming that the ICC is under pressure from "globalist experts" to prosecute US citizens, service members and elected leaders.
"They want more power, and they want it at the expense of our sovereignty as a nation," Rubio said.
Rubio went on to say: "We will ban transactions with this rogue court, cutting off their resources and crippling their ability to operate against us. Because our message is clear, the United States and the American people are not subject to the jurisdiction of this fake ICC."
The United Nations has condemned the decision. Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said the sanctions were "a collective blow" to the organisation's "collective pursuit of international criminal justice, of which the ICC is a key pillar.

- The Pentagon has confirmed the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed after US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the execution would be "public".
The execution of Hasan is scheduled to take place at Fort Hood on December 3. Hasan was convicted of killing 13 unarmed US soldiers and injuring 32 other people in a shooting at the military base in 2009.
Amnesty International’s Death Sentences and Executions report said there were at least 2,707 executions last year globally. Only two countries carried out the executions publicly: Afghanistan and Iran.
It’s understood this will be the first public execution in the United States in approximately 90 years.

VAD laws in Australia began in 1995 with the Northern Territory's Rights of the Terminally Ill Act, which made history as the world’s first legal framework for voluntary euthanasia, before being overturned by the federal government two years later.
Since then, every Australian state and territory has introduced legal VAD. The Northern Territory has passed legislation that will make the practice legally operational in early 2028.
In his address, Denton warned the work of VAD reform is far from finished. He said the most pressing barriers include obstruction by hospitals and aged care providers that object to VAD.
