Horizons moderator William Brangham discussed the importance of batteries to solar energy deployment with Bill McKibben, an environmental activist, writer and author of “Here Comes The Sun.”
“If the last three or four years was about the rise of solar and wind power, the next two or three years are going to be about the deployment of batteries everywhere on that grid and elsewhere to make that solar and wind power all the more valuable,” McKibben said.

In May 2011, Mark Kelton served as the CIA’s top official in Pakistan, where bin Laden met his demise. Kelton shared with host Nick Schifrin the moment when he saw live footage of the raid.
“We were up cheering in my office,” Kelton, who is now a senior advisor at the Chertoff Group and a founding partner of the Five Eyes Group, told Schifrin.
Kelton shared that another great moment was informing colleagues who were not necessarily aware of the operation, but contributed toward it.

- Chef Maurice Levene, or “Chef Moe,” as he’s known on TikTok, isn’t your typical culinary creator. With nearly a quarter century in the culinary field and eight years experience as head chef, he’s using his expertise about the art and science of cooking to help his viewers cook good meals, on a budget.
Levene launched his TikTok account last year to share cooking tips, but he soon learned some of his followers were struggling to afford basic necessities.
“There was one message in particular of someone expressing how they thought the dish was amazing. They couldn’t wait to try it, but they had to wait till next month to buy the ingredients to make the dish,” said Levene.
And just like that, the Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania-based chef launched a new budget-conscious series on his channel: How to feed a family with just $5 or $10 dollars.

The attacks came just hours after Israel and Lebanon agreed to extend their truce during talks in Washington that did not include Hezbollah.
Speaking to reporters Thursday, President Donald Trump said he believed Hezbollah wanted to find an end to the fighting.

- A court in Colorado reversed the homicide convictions Thursday for two paramedics who had been sentenced in the overdose death of Elijah McClain.
The 23-year-old Black man had been forcibly restrained by police as he walked home from a convenience store in 2019. The paramedics injected him with ketamine and were found guilty of criminally negligent homicide after a trial in 2023. The ruling sends their cases back to a lower court.
McClain's final words, "I can't breathe," foreshadowed those of George Floyd a year later and helped fuel public anger over police tactics across the nation.

- French-Iranian author and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi has died. She was best known for her graphic novel series "Persepolis," based on her own coming of age in Tehran after the Islamic Revolution. It was later adapted into an Oscar-nominated film she directed.
Satrapi also wrote the graphic novel "Chicken With Plums" and directed the Marie Curie biopic "Radioactive" starring Rosamund Pike.
French President Emmanuel Macron called Satrapi an artist devoted to freedom whose work carried a universal message.
Her family said she died of sadness after the death of her husband last year. She was 56 years old.

The deal would settle a criminal case that burst into public view when FBI agents raided his Maryland home and Washington, D.C., office. Officials say he held onto sensitive diary-like notes that he planned to use for a memoir.
If the deal is approved by a judge, Bolton could either face no prison time or up to five years in custody, plus more than $2 million in fines.

"These grave sites will not live on forever," Krista Horrocks, the project manager for the Revolutionary War Veterans Graves Project, says. "There's nothing we can do to stop the erosion permanently, but to be able to document them is the best thing we can do, because that will outlive all of us."

- Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., asked Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to set the record straight about the status of the Justice Department's “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” during a House Ways and Means hearing Thursday.
The nearly $1.8 billion fund was part of a settlement with President Donald Trump to end a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over the leaking of his tax returns. A federal judge blocked the fund for two weeks pending additional legal arguments.
Bessent said that the “Department of Treasury is following the direction of the Department of Justice,” pointing to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s comments during a Tuesday hearing that the administration wasn’t moving forward with the fund.
“We intend to comply with that direction,” Bessent said, noting that he did not have any further details about what that means.

Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., asked Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about a Government Accountability Office report that found a Department of Government Efficiency “employee was inadvertently granted temporary access to create, modify and delete data” from a payment system Bessent gave DOGE access to.
“You failed to impose basic safeguards that left millions of Americans’ personal data vulnerable to unauthorized access and abuse,” Delbene said during a House Ways and Means hearing Thursday. “Do you take responsibility for that?”
Delbene asked Bessent what measures he has taken “to protect the affected individual's data and rebuild confidence in your department's handling of sensitive information.”
