- Description
- Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., questioned Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Wednesday about President Donald Trump’s executive order to increase production of the pesticide glyphosate, and whether that means “more Americans are likely to be exposed to this chemical and get cancer.”
Hassan noted that Kennedy, who was testifying before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in a hearing on President Donald Trump’s 2027 budget request, testified this week that he believes glyphosate causes cancer and that he was unhappy with the decision, which Trump argues is for national security.
Hassan later accused Kennedy of changing his testimony over time on the issue.
In an earlier hearing, Kennedy faced questioning about his stance on vaccines, Trump’s drug website known as Trump Rx, as well as proposed cuts to Medicaid and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy, a physician and influe...

- Description
- Senators and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. clashed repeatedly Wednesday over planned changes to Medicaid, despite Kennedy's claim that "there are no cuts to Medicaid."
Over the course of two budget hearings Wednesday, Kennedy challenged senators who pointed to Congressional Budget Office estimates that showed President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" would reduce spending on Medicaid by $1 trillion over the next decade. Enrollment would drop by millions of people in that time frame, the estimate says.
Kennedy pointed to another CBO projection that showed federal spending would actually increase through 2035. But senators pushed back, citing rural hospital closures and health care service changes in their communities that local health officials attribute to the legislation.
Rural hospitals have long suffered financial pressures that threaten their existence. Between 2005 and 2023, 146 rural hospitals closed or stopped offering ...

- Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., questioned Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about political influence over national vaccine policy in a hearing on President Donald Trump’s 2027 budget request.
Kennedy appeared before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Wednesday.
“I am a doctor who has seen people die from vaccine-preventable diseases, and when I see outbreaks numbering in the thousands and people dying once more from vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly children, it it seems more than tragic,” said Cassidy, a physician and influential chair of the Senate Health Committee.
He asked Kennedy if the future CDC director would “have the right to make decisions independently” of political appointees, who might work to undermine public trust in immunizations.
“If she wishes to make a decision independently of them, she shall be allowed to make that decision independently,” Kennedy said.

- WATCH: Warnock criticizes RFK Jr. for CDC cuts to rabies emergency line
- Date posted

- Description
