The Red Devils have fought to two successive draws in Group G—a 1-1 stalemate against Egypt, followed by a tense, 10-man 0-0 draw against Iran. For a set of players long touted as the “dark horses” at global events, it is a far cry from what was promised.

The first quake measured 7.2 in magnitude, followed moments later by an even stronger 7.5 tremor. Scientists have described the event as a rare "doublet earthquake", a phenomenon where two major earthquakes of similar strength occur almost back-to-back. But what exactly is a doublet earthquake? Why did the second quake happen so quickly? How is it different from an aftershock? And why are seismologists around the world closely studying this event? Samah Qundeel explains.

- At a press conference, AIMIM Party President and MP Asaduddin Owaisi said, 'Twelve documents were listed to allow voters whose names were missing from the 2002 draft list. In Telangana, the NRC was never conducted, so that document is invalid. A Permanent Resident Certificate is not issued here, the Family Register does not exist, and Aadhaar is not accepted. That eliminates four documents, leaving only eight. We asked the Commission to include the PAN card, since it is valid for voting, as well as a driving licence issued by the state or a food security card. But they refused. We also requested that anomalies be corrected. In 2002, the voter list was prepared manually by the Election Commission. If there was any spelling mistake back then, how can they penalise voters now.'

My heart is deeply saddened. I am leaving for Ayodhya tomorrow. After that, I will also visit Hanumangarhi. I will meet some saints there, and we will have a more detailed discussion. I have only just landed here. This SIT has no power to investigate, so this SIT is just a fraud in the eyes of the people. - "It’s not a good time to be an Indian travelling abroad. I don’t need to repeat the stories about how badly many Indian tourists behave in foreign countries: we have seen enough evidence of that in the photos, videos and anecdotes that have been published or posted online. But one consequence of the behaviour of a loud minority is that the rest of us now face more suspicion and disdain than we ever have before.
You can sense the changing mood if you talk to people planning trips abroad. Nearly everyone approaches the visa application process with dread and trepidation. At foreign airports, most (nearly all, perhaps) Indians feel at least a tinge of awkwardness if not outright fear before they go to the immigration desk to get their passports stamped on arrival. Even if they have valid visas, there is always an anxiety that the encounter with the immigration officer could be unpleasant..."—Vir Sanghvi in #SharpEdge

- "Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education A Rajmohan announced last week that private schools could now apply for certificates of registration — loosely called no-objection certificates — online. Also, that the widespread practice of asking for what may be euphemistically called ‘payments’ will cease... This is one of the many steps the new TVK government has taken to declare its intent to curb corruption. Other measures include those relating to tenders and processes in the electricity board, the notoriously crooked state liquor monopoly (TASMAC), and land registration department. During the Assembly election campaign, Joseph Vijay consistently framed corruption as an issue, promising a much cleaner administration if elected.
I suspect that this was one of the principal reasons he was voted to power. The promise of ending corruption is a powerful electoral plank, something an India frustrated with petty or cutting-edge corruption has witnessed time and again.....

- Currently, it is being cautiously communicated that the crisis has subsided. Crude oil prices have decreased. The Strait of Hormuz, we were told, had reopened. Exhale, except that even as I write this, Iran has declared the strait closed again, shipping traffic has stalled, and the United States insists it never closed at all. Nobody, including the ships currently sitting still in the Gulf, seems to agree on whether this crisis is actually over. The sense of relief that many felt, while understandable, may be somewhat premature. This is not due to the resurgence of danger, but rather because the economic implications of this crisis were not primarily about the war itself. The reason we’re not talking about the cost of an oil barrel yet isn’t that we paid for it; rather, someone else paid for it on our behalf and hasn’t sent us the bill yet."
