- Why is Los Angeles building a hydrogen plant in Utah?
- Date posted
- Description
- Green hydrogen fuel is being championed as a ticket to decarbonization by gas companies and the federal government, with California having received $1.2 billion to develop itself as a “hydrogen hub”, to help harder-to-electricity industries, like shipping and long-haul trucking, wean themselves off of fossil fuels.
On a local level, LADWP is working to convert L.A.’s local gas plants with the fuel.
Whether it’ll help Los Angeles meet its goal of 100% clean energy by 2035 depends entirely on how the hydrogen is produced.
