- [Impact of the Middle East Situation] Keeping food supply resilient
- Date posted
- Description
- Global energy disruptions can have knock-on effects beyond electricity. As natural gas is a key raw material for fertilisers, rising gas prices can drive up the cost of food crops and animal feed. This, together with higher transport and storage costs, will drive up food prices.
Singapore maintains strategic food stockpiles to help mitigate supply disruptions, while continuing to review and strengthen supply chains to ensure resilience in an uncertain environment.
Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam delivered a Ministerial Statement on the Situation in the Middle East on 7 April 2026.

- [Impact of the Middle East Situation] We must be prepared for higher electricity prices
- Date posted

- Description
- Singapore has taken steps to reduce the risk of disruptions to our energy supply through diversified fuel sources, power plants that can switch between fuel types when needed, adequate fuel reserves, and electricity retailers that are better positioned to manage price volatility.
Global developments, however, will still have an impact, especially if the conflict is prolonged. Singaporeans should be prepared for higher and potentially sharper increases in electricity prices.

- [Impact of the Middle East Situation] Preparing for longer-term shocks
- Date posted
- Description
- Singapore must be prepared for the impact of the ongoing conflict to persist for the longer-term. A global energy crunch could be triggered if the situation in the Middle East escalates, slowing growth and pushing up inflation worldwide. Global oil and gas markets will also likely remain tight, even if the conflict ends and the Strait of Hormuz reopens.
This makes partnerships with like-minded countries, and upholding an open, rules-based trading system critical. Singapore must continue to ensure the free flow of energy and goods as far as possible.
