Iran had struck Israel late Sunday, pointing to “repeated violations” of the ceasefire in Lebanon by Israeli forces. Israel struck back, Iran in turn responded with more attacks. On Monday afternoon Iran's military leadership declared its attacks against Israel over.
Israel and Lebanon had agreed last week on a renewed attempt to implement a ceasefire. One condition was that Hezbollah — classified as a terror organization by several entities — completely halt its attacks on Israel. The militia was not involved in the ceasefire talks, flatly rejected the agreement and continued attacking Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were carried out in response to rocket fire from Hezbollah into northern Israel. Lebanese media reported casualties following the attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs, an area considered a Hezbollah stronghold.
The developments raise new questions about the durability of the ceasefire and whether Israel and Hezbollah could be heading toward another broader confrontation.
In a separate incident, a gunman killed one person and wounded several others in central Israel. Authorities are investigating whether the shooting was an organized terrorist attack or the act of a lone individual.
