- The Wildcat Bluff Nature Center opened in 1992 and sits on just over 750 acres of land in Potter County.
Ever since the Stinky Fire in the month of May, efforts to conduct fire mitigation have been ramped up.
“There’s a lot of fuel that has been built up,” said Will Masters, environmental educator. “There’s a lot of vegetation out there, and it’s gotten really thick, so yeah, the Stinky Fire came out in May, and it was really scary. It was really close to us. So, we’ve kind of made it our responsibility to make a defensible space and protect our city.”
“So, putting the fire breaks in is really part of the bigger picture plan of working on mesquite abatement. Also, when things happen like it did this year with the different wildfires, it becomes so critical that all landowners are taking care of their land,” said Wendy Taylor, CEO of Discovery Center & Wildcat Bluff Nature Center.

The 19th edition of the Cardboard Boat Races at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Oldham County.
The students at Boys Ranch have been spending lots of time assembling cardboard cutouts to try to make them into a boat or a small replica ship, and paddling from one side of the pond to the other.
“So, it’s not just a fun outdoor activity where we get wet, but it makes them use their brains, it makes them think, it makes them be creative,” said Daniel Pectol, executive director of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. “It makes them work as a team, and that’s the things that they’re going to have to do in life; it’s not always easy.”

- As severe weather season ramps up in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo emergency officials are urging residents to take outdoor warning sirens seriously — and to act immediately when they sound.
Max Dunlap, director of the Office of Emergency Management in Amarillo, said a common misconception is that the sirens are only used for tornadoes. They can also be activated for other dangerous situations, including large hail, fire evacuations and hazardous materials incidents.
“Hail that is roughly the size of a pool ball or a baseball falling at terminal velocity from the air tends to do a lot of damage,” Dunlap said. “We can sound them for fire evacuation. If a siren is in the area that is applicable to the area, we can send them for hazardous material things.”
Emergency officials said the message is the same regardless of the threat: If outdoor warning sirens sound, don’t wait — go inside immediately.

Speaking with The National News Desk, former federal prosecutor and former Acting ICE Director Jonathan Fahey said the delay is unusual given the purpose of a preliminary hearing.
"This is really bizarre because this is just a preliminary hearing determining whether there's probable cause to send this to trial," Fahey said.

- Combat between the United States and Iran resumed this week and the economic fallout has been immediate.
The national average gas price jumped by five cents overnight into Thursday to $3.84, according to AAA. Some states saw even sharper one-day increases: The average gas price in Florida jumped by 9 cents, in New Mexico by 12 cents and in Ohio by 17 cents.
"Everything is so volatile and gas prices are so unpredictable and reactive that they could continue going up," AAA spokesperson Aixa Diaz said. "The national average remains $3.84 right now. We were paying that a week ago. Now, when this all began on February 28, the national average was $2.98. So we've come a long way since then, but it's just too early to know how long this will last."
When crude oil prices rise, prices at the pump are quick to follow, but when oil drops, gas stations often take longer to adjust.

The hearing follows an emotional first day in court that included surveillance video, witness testimony, and arguments over evidence involving Robinson's former roommate, Lance Twiggs.
Judge proceedings also addressed whether portions of Twiggs' recorded statement should remain sealed. The court ordered certain redactions after prosecutors argued the material included text messages, chat logs, and a handwritten note connected to the investigation. Members of the Kirk family had urged the court to release the statement in its entirety.

Jeff Compson and his wife owned one of the 52 homes destroyed by the landfill fire. Compson described how quickly the fire spread.
