- Pope Leo XIV was eating normally and walking around his hospital room on Wednesday after undergoing surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung, according to the Vatican. Tests confirmed he has lung adenocarcinoma, a type of lung cancer.
Dr. Luigi Carbone and thoracic surgeon Dr. Stefano Margaritora provided a medical update, stating that initial blood tests and a chest X-ray confirmed a normal recovery.
“The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking in his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch," they reported. “His recovery is proceeding as expected."

The Cobb County theme park is slated to open at 6 p.m. for Fright Fest, but the Goliath roller coaster will remain closed under state regulations.

The Walmart Supercenter at 4215 Canyon Drive in Amarillo is set to host a free community wellness event at its pharmacy as part of Walmart’s annual “National Wellness Day.” The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
More than 4,500 Walmart pharmacies across the country are expected to participate, including locations in the Texas Panhandle. During the event, Walmart pharmacies will offer free services including flu and COVID shots, along with blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI checks.
“It’s absolutely about being accessible and being convenient to our community so that we spread health care access as wide as we can,” said Elizabeth Neyland, the Walmart pharmacy manager.

For Tulia resident Amanda Patterson, opening her monthly bill has become a source of frustration. “I've never opened my power bill this time of year with utilities that are partly electric and partly gas, to find the utility bill worse than that imaginable, well over 300 just for utilities,” Patterson said.
Patterson said she is hearing similar complaints from others in the community. “It's everywhere. It's in the grocery store. It's the lady that came today and I cut my yard. She was complaining about hers to,” she said.

- A cough, fever or runny nose may seem like an ordinary illness. But as measles cases rise nationwide, health experts say the infection can be hard to recognize before it spreads.
The United States had 4,080 confirmed measles cases in 2026 as of Oct. 8, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As of Oct. 13, the Texas Department of State Health Services had not confirmed an active measles outbreak in Texas.
Dr. Todd Bell, an associate professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, said measles remains a concern because it spreads easily.
“Measles is one of the, if not the most contagious virus that we know of that infects people,” Bell said.
High vaccination rates help prevent the virus from spreading, he said. When groups of people are unvaccinated, measles can move quickly from one person to another.

When they returned, they found the third floor gone.
"I think I was just so shocked at how much damage Mother Nature did," Dean said.
Dean says she thought the hurricane had taken the things she couldn’t replace.
