- Description
- President Trump may not be on the ballot in 2026 — but his influence is already shaping the outcome of key races across the country.
From Indiana to Texas to Florida, Trump-backed candidates are winning primaries, redrawing political alliances, and playing a major role in the fight over redistricting — the process that determines how congressional and state legislative maps are drawn.
In this video, we break down:
• What redistricting is and why it matters
• How Trump’s endorsements are impacting Republican primaries
• Key developments in Indiana, Texas, Florida, Virginia, and California
• Why control of political maps could determine the balance of power in Washington
With control of Congress potentially coming down to just a handful of seats, the outcomes of these races — and who draws the maps — could shape elections for years to come.

- One of the Democratic Party’s most reliable voting blocs may be showing signs of change, and where those voters ultimately land could have major implications for upcoming midterm elections and beyond.
A recent Axios article has sparked widespread discussion after reporting that the share of Black adults identifying as Democrats dropped from 77% in 2020 to 66% in 2023.
The headline, suggesting Republicans see an opening with Black voters, ignited strong reactions online and renewed debate about long-standing political loyalties.
Some Black Republicans say the shift does not necessarily mean voters are moving directly to the GOP, but rather stepping away from firm party identification altogether.
We don’t see in those numbers people going from Democrat to Republican,” said political strategist Cory J. Ruth. “They’re just not identifying as Democrat. And that’s a positive. It represents an opportunity for Republicans.”

The carrier announced that it had started an “orderly wind-down” of operations, effective immediately. Spirit told customers not to go to the airport, said all flights had been canceled, and noted that customer service was no longer available.
The company blamed the shutdown on a sharp rise in fuel prices that hit while Spirit was already trying to restructure its business. In a statement referenced in the scripts, Spirit said it had reached a restructuring plan with bondholders in March, but the “sudden and sustained” rise in fuel costs left the company needing hundreds of millions of dollars in additional liquidity it could not secure. Reuters reported that Spirit’s attorney told a bankruptcy court Tuesday that sharply higher jet fuel prices left the airline with “no remaining way out” of bankruptcy.

On Saturday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a notice prohibiting the recognition, enforcement, or compliance of U.S. sanctions against five Chinese companies accused of participating in Iranian oil transactions. The ministry said the sanctions "constitute improper extraterritorial application."
It's why, on Tuesday, when asked about his upcoming trip to China, Trump turned heads when he said Xi has "been very nice" about the war with Iran.
"You know, in all fairness, he gets like 60% of his oil from (the Strait of) Hormuz. He’s been, I think, very respectful. We haven’t been challenged by China. They don’t challenge us and he wouldn’t do that. I don’t think he’d do that because of me," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

- Description
- The government released key economic figures on growth, inflation and jobs on Thursday, a day after the Federal Reserve opted against its first interest rate cut since December.
Taken together, the various economic reports paint “a somewhat conflicting picture,” said Bankrate principal analyst Ted Rossman.
But the economic data is largely better than is reflected in gloomy consumer sentiment surveys, he said.
“It's a slow growth economy that's hanging in there despite some headwinds,” Rossman said. “It doesn't feel great, but on balance, the economy is in pretty solid shape.”
The war in Iran is a drag on the economy and could become a bigger drag if it causes more prices to rise, Rossman said.
Inflation is above the Fed’s target, driven in part by higher oil and gas prices tied to the war.
“There is a fear – we're not totally seeing it yet – but there's a fear that that could bleed more into other areas,” Rossman said of th...

- The conflict involving Iran reached the 60-day mark on Friday, and the Trump administration argues that it has effectively ended due to a fragile ceasefire that began in April, meaning congressional approval is no longer required.
Under the War Powers Resolution, a president must wind down military operations after 60 days unless Congress authorizes an extension. Democrats have pushed to enforce those limits in an effort to restrict Trump’s military actions in Iran.
Republicans have largely supported Trump, arguing that he has the authority to act against threats.

- All eyes are on the state Capitol as Gov. Ron DeSantis prepares to sign Florida’s newly approved congressional redistricting map into law.
Lawmakers passed the plan during a two-day special session that ended yesterday. Governor DeSantis said he will quickly sign the map he proposed once it reaches his desk.
Once signed, the map is expected to face immediate legal challenges from Democrats and advocacy groups, who argue the unusual mid-decade redraw amounts to unconstitutional gerrymandering.
The governor argues the new boundaries better reflect Florida’s rapid population growth and ensure everybody's vote counts.
The changes could have ripple effects from Capitol Hill to local communities, from shifting political power in Washington to altering local representation across South Florida and the Treasure Coast.
Under the new map, four U.S. House seats would flip from Democratic to Republican control, helping Republicans maintain their House majorit...

- The shelves at the High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo, once filled with food, are now nearly empty as donations fall and demand continues to rise.
Staff says more families are coming in for help, and they are asking the community to step up support as the cost of living makes it harder for families to afford groceries.
“1 in 6 of our neighbors are food insecure, and that includes 1 in 5 children, which has been kind of the most shocking number that we've had in a long time. And so shows that we're just, you know, this is why the food bank is here,” said Zivorad Filipovic, director of marketing and communications for the High Plains Food Bank.
Filipovic said the food bank has seen a 50% drop in nonperishable food donations since January.
“It's just a tough environment right now, just overall, with I think more and more people needing our help. So we're seeing that drop in how much somebody can give us because they have to support ...

“We’ll see the tax benefits for our things,” said Cortnie Hale, president/CEO of Pampa Chamber of Commerce. “We’ll see the hotel motel tax money that will give money for events in town. It will be a continuous cycle where the money circulates, and the town grows.”
Fifteen miles up the highway from the data center site is another construction project, a Workforce Housing Development, that’s being built to accommodate thousands of workers in the future.

- Description
- Minnesota has become a hotspot for major fraud investigations, from pandemic food aid to Medicaid and childcare programs. But how much money is actually involved, and has anyone been held responsible?
The scale of the fraud
The largest confirmed case is the “Feeding Our Future” scheme, which involved more than $250 million in fraudulent COVID-era food aid claims, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Additional cases include an $11 million Medicaid fraud scheme involving billing for services never provided, also charged by the DOJ. There are ongoing investigations into childcare subsidies and other programs, but those have not yet produced confirmed totals.
Some officials warn total fraud exposure could reach into the billions, but those figures are estimates, not confirmed losses.

The president explained the decision is due to Scotland's ability to work with the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Whiskey and Bourbon.
"I will be removing the Tariffs and Restrictions on Whiskey having to do with Scotland’s ability to work with the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Whiskey and Bourbon, two very important Industries within Scotland and Kentucky," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "People have wanted to do this for a long time, in that there had been great Inter-Country Trade, especially having to do with the Wooden Barrels used."

- Description
- Ketamine therapy is becoming more common in Texas as more patients seek treatment for depression, PTSD, and other mental health conditions, often after other options have failed. Now, proposed rules could tighten oversight of the powerful drug, raising questions about patient safety, access and cost — especially for people in rural areas who rely on telehealth.
Ketamine was originally used as an anesthetic, but it is now used in some settings for mental health treatment. The proposed changes would increase regulation of how ketamine can be provided, including limits on certain at-home use.
Sherif Zaafran, president of the Texas Medical Board, said patients would still be able to access some forms of ketamine at home, including oral and intranasal versions, as long as it is appropriately prescribed.
“Patients at home would still be able to obtain oral ketamine or intranasal ketamine so that that would not affect their ability to obtain that med...
