- A cooler change at the weekend and today is a hint that a new Autumn weather pattern is forming - but we’re not done with the summer heat just yet.
High pressure smothers NZ this week bringing mostly dry weather in the days ahead.
However by Thursday a windy westerly kicks in over the South Island and up to the lower North Island with gales in some places and some heavy rain on the West Coast.
As we head into Friday and Saturday downpours and showers affect the North Island with higher humidity.

- We have a cold front moving up the country this weekend and will even bring some wet weather in to drought parts of the upper North Island.
There’s also a much cooler change for southern NZ producing a colder than average Saturday.
By Sunday most of NZ will be a little cooler and less humid in the north.

- It’s a fairly hot end to the working week with most regions a few to several degrees above normal but by Saturday a little bit of rain moves into the North Island and behind it most of the country has a temperature reset.
For the lower South Island it will be cooler than average while the top of NZ stays warmer than average - many in between reset to normal.
Friday and Saturday sees rain move up the western side of NZ, even as far north as Waikato, Auckland and Northland on Saturday - but rainfall totals may not be much for everyone with the front fall apart as it moves in.

- NZ has a few showers - some heavy - on Wednesday and a few more linger into Thursday too (although more isolated).
A low that is growing in the Tasman Sea - created from the remnants of Ex-Cyclone Uesi - will send a cold front with some rain into the West Coast on Friday then into western and northern NZ on Saturday.
High pressure grows by Sunday and into next week too.

- We have more humidity which is making it feel warmer than it is by night and by day but it’s also producing more cloud and an increased risk of showers.
Some of these showers will become heavy inland, particularly in the North Island with some risks of thunder.
This weekend a cold front moves into the North Island but also falls apart entirely.
Meanwhile off to NZ’s north east we have two or three tropical lows bubbling up - one or two may become tropical cyclones but will remain away from NZ.

- NZ has a more humid week this week which encourages showers, some possibly heavy, through inland parts of our drought zones.
The country is in between high pressure with one high departing to our east and the next one rolling in by this Sunday from the west.
Between these two highs we also have a low forming in the Tasman Sea which will send a weak front into the North Island this weekend bringing some further hit and miss rain relief.
While this won’t end the drought, it is perhaps one of the better weeks we’ve seen this year for some wet weather into the North Island - but not much for Canterbury which is equally becoming seriously dry in the north of the region.

- Uesi may have technically lost its tropical cyclone status but it’s still a storm with a punch and will reach the South Island on Sunday with gales, heavy rain and dangerous seas.
For the most part the ex-tropical storm is a rainmaker with 150mm likely in 24 hours on the West Coast.
Waves of up to 8m are also forecast.
Next week the humidity left behind will help spark some decent downpours in the North Island - but it’s hit and miss.

- Tropical Cyclone Uesi is now over the Tasman Sea area and will be there for the next few days as it tracks southwards. This tracking will mean it hits the West Coast of the South Island later on Sunday and lingering over Monday and Tuesday. Rainfall totals may change but for now up to 150mm is forecast on the West Coast, mostly the southern half.
The storm will miss the North Island but helps pull down a more humid airflow which will make it feel hotter.
The North Island, sadly, misses out on rain from this event - but there may be some showers developing over the next week or so.

- Tropical Cyclone Uesi is clearing New Caledonia today and has its sights set on New Zealand’s South Island as early as this Sunday.
The storm is likely to bring days of rain and showers to the already saturated West Coast and lower South Island. It may also bring a brief surge of damaging winds.
The North Island looks mostly unaffected but a more humid airflow is forming and the remnants of Uesi may late month send some showers into the North Island.

- Severe Tropical Cyclone Uesi is today moving into New Caledonia as forecasters eye up another area north east of Fiji which will likely see an ever larger cyclone develop later this week.
Uesi will track into the Tasman Sea in the days ahead and then flirt with Aussie’s eastern coastline. It may then move into the western side of the lower South Island early to mid next week.
Meanwhile later next week the second tropical cyclone will likely be crossing Tonga and tracking somewhat towards NZ.
High pressure will be dominating the North Island - pushing back at both these storms and keeping mostly dry weather in placethere for the next week or two.

- An ex cyclone is falling apart in western Australia, a new cyclone has formed north of NZ and another cyclone is likely north of Fiji later this week.
The main focus this week is on Cyclone Uesi which is near Vanuatu and New Caledonia. It will track south into the Tasman Sea this week then brush eastern Australia bringing even more rain there - especially between Brisbane and Sydney.
The remnants may make it to the West Coast of NZ’s South Island next week.
Meanwhile another storm will form north east of Fiji later this week and may impact Samoa and Tonga.

- The heatwave has cleared and now NZ has a new W to SW airflow across the country. Most places will notice a cool down athough some in the north of both islands still have hot days and warm nights.
The bulk of the rain has cleared the lower and western South Island and now we have a shower, sometimes colder S to SW wind. Another surge of showers this weekend - and cooler winds - moves through.

- We have a few showers in the forecast over the next few days, mainly focused on the West Coast. Elsewhere it’s mostly dry with hotter weather moving in thanks to both sub-tropical nor’westers and winds out of Australia.
Ex-Cyclone Tino is impressive in the Southern Ocean and heading to southern Chile. It’s not affecting NZ now but it’s impressive to look at.
We have another Southern Ocean storm next week - again it missed NZ but it’s likely to help enhance those windier westerlies again.

- Wet areas are drying out this week but so too are dry areas as NZ sits in between weather systems. We have a weak high to our west and a weak low to our north.
This set up means the weather around NZ is fairly quiet with the next cold front not arriving until Friday on the West Coast and Southland and then disintegrating over the North Island’s western side on Saturday.
Airflows this weekend start to warm up and overnight lows warm up too as sub-tropical wind flows come back for some areas in the north.
However next week, around Tuesday, we may have a nationwide rainmaker. It isn’t yet locked in because high pressure could block it - but the best chance in a while at some northern rain may be forming next week.

- The first tropical cyclone of the South Pacific Cyclone Season has formed near Vanuatu, we have the latest tracking. In NZ we take a closer look at the extended hot and dry spell continuing in many regions.
For some the entire week ahead will be dry and mostly sunny and will feel more like summer.
Some rain brushes the West Coast and Southland - otherwise it’s dry with just a couple isolated showers this week.

- We have a potential heatwave forming in the South Island while the North Island is entering into a very dry phase for the rest of November.
There may be a few isolated downpours through inland parts of both islands this weekend and early next week but outside of that it looks mainly dry or completely dry.
The only exception is the West Coast where some rain will fall - but more dry spells than recent weeks.

- We have a significant shift in our pattern for the rest of November with much drier weather kicking in and hotter for most places too.
Conditions will be both warmer and drier than average in about 85% of the country over the next week.
There is still a little bit of West Coast rain - and perhaps one or two showers elsewhere. Otherwise high pressure parked in the Tasman Sea will dominate NZ’s weather basically for the rest of the month and even into early December.

- We have high pressure stuck in the Tasman Sea for the rest of the month and that means an uptick in drier and milder weather for many regions across the country.
Even the West Coast - which has been very wet lately - has some dry and sunny days in the mix again,
The set up looks set to stay with NZ for the rest of November and the very start of December with any rainmakers most likely to affect Fiordland and Westland.

- NZ has a little further rain and afternoon downpours coming on Wednesday, then many places head into a warmer, drier phase.
There may be a few isolated afternoon thunderstorms around NZ on Wednesday afternoon ahead of a cooler change that will only last 24 hours.
By Thursday and especially going into Friday warmer airflows move into both islands. Between now and then it may be a little cooler at times, especially at night.
The weekend is shaping up mostly dry and warm - but some West Coast rain continues and on Sunday more of the South Island may be exposed to some wetter weather.

- Heavy rain off and on for the West Coast and some Australia smoke in our skies, otherwise many places have a fairly dry and average week ahead.
There will be a slight cool down around Wednesday and Thursday but by Friday and the weekend many places are back to sub-tropical winds - or a nor’west flow from Australia.
The North Island and northern and eastern sides of the South Island look especially dry but Southland and Otago will get a few spits spilling over from the west - as might the foothills of Canterbury and into the Southern Alps. Snow will also be falling on the mountain tops in the south with some heavy falls.

- We take a look at the latest 5 day rainfall maps for both NZ and also Australia, plus temperatures hit 45 degrees in some parts of Aussie.
Here in NZ a westerly flow is blowing across the country but it comes from two different sources - sub-tropical in the north and Southern Ocean airflows in the south. This means heavy snow for the Southern Alps and becoming warmer than normal in many parts of the North Island.
Mid to late next week a colder southerly is expected to spread nationwide.

- We have the latest 5 day rain maps for both New Zealand and Australia - and the Aussie one is quite significant.
Over NZ we have more spring westerlies over the next week with driest weather in the north, warmest in the north east, wettest on the West Coast and coolest in southern NZ.
Next week a low tracks over NZ followed by, potentially, a nationwide high pressure system.
