- Low pressure zones are growing around northern Australia, especially around the Coral Sea where there is even some tropical cyclone potential in the next week or two.
Windy and dry easterlies continue on for the southern third of Australia with cooler airflows pushing into the entire southern coastline for a time, but particularly in the south-east around Victoria.
Rain is also showing up in FNQ and coastal NSW - but much drier inland still.

- The weather patten around NZ remains unsettled - but summer weather isn’t over yet. A low moving in this weekend from the Tasman Sea will bring in some rain and isolated heavy showers/thunderstorms (mainly Sunday).
By Monday - which is a long weekend for around half of the nation due to Auckland Anniversary Weekend - a strong southerly flow will move in with coastal gales around the country and severe gales possible in some exposed parts of the North Island.
Next week high pressure moves through along with westerlies at times - with southern NZ having more “Autumn-like” temperature fluctuations.

- Low pressure is growing further over tropical northern Australia over the next week or two and that finally sees some monsoon-like rain coming in to parts of Queensland - mostly in FNQ. Parts of the Northern Territory and the Kimberley will also see some wet weather. But further southwards across the rest of the continent windy and dry easterlies are likely to dominate over the coming week with fairly dry conditions.
Along the eastern side of Queensland and New South Wales there will be heavy wet weather especially between Cairns and Townsville. There's also some rain on the way for the eastern side of Victoria although totals aren't big for everybody.

This weekend low pressure from the Tasman Sea will try to move in but falls apart as it does so, mostly on Sunday bringing showers to both main islands and a cooler southerly change in the south (and warmer west to nor'west winds in the North Island).
Next week we see high-pressure crossing New Zealand bringing settled summer weather along with another burst of westerlies driving in heavy rain for the West Coast and sunnier and hotter weather for those along the east, but another cool change in southern NZ.

- Some dry and calm weather is back in the forecast for the remainder of the working week but this weekend a low in the Tasman Sea looks set to disrupt things by bringing in more rain, showers and cloud. Not everyone will get rain - or get much of it. In fact most regions lean drier than normal over the next week ahead.
As for the Big Picture - the Southern Ocean is still very stormy and continues to dominate NZ’s weather pattern, with the tropics very quiet so far - but some signs of life developing up there as we head into February.

- Low pressure around the north of NZ means windy weather is kicking in from today through to Tuesday, in particular the top third of the North Island. If you’re camping be prepared for some windy weather with gales and possibly even severe easterly gales in the forecast.
The further down the country you go the cooler those easterlies are with below normal temperatures by day for many eastern places from Gisborne to Dunedin.
But many regions are leaning drier than average over the next week despite the showers - but the top of the North Island and north-east of the North Island (Northland to East Cape) looks to lean wetter. - In our final video of 2024 we take a look at the upcoming two week weather as a cooler, slightly windier set-up locks itself in for Week 1.
Week 2 may be even more settled as air pressure continues to rise. But showers, thunderstorms and occasionally windy weather is all in the mix - along with a few more southerly changes. This is certainly no a muggy start to summer with airflows mostly coming in from south of the country.

- Wet weather is coming for Queensland over the next week but sadly not in Victoria for the Grampians bush fire. In fact dry, hot and sometimes windy weather will dominate the lower half of the continent this week, driving in windy easterlies from coast to coast which causes cloud and wet weather for coastal eastern Qld and NSW, but drier inland and to the south for Vic and SA.
WA has windy weather at times from the east, boosting temperatures again. But the top half of WA and NT isn’t too stormy - just a few thunderstorms and isolated downpours here and there.

Rain on Thursday is mostly likely in the south-west of the South Island but will move up West Coast with heavy falls and some wet weather will move into Southland and Otago but only showers further north as the front falls apart due to high pressure centred over Northland.

- This week’s 7 Day Rainfall forecast for Australia shows more hit and miss relief, with perhaps Adelaide being in line for some rain this weekend. SA has the best chance of rain it has had in weeks, if not months. Vic and NSW are on the edges of this.
WA continues to receive daily thunderstorms and downpours. Some might reach the Wheatbelt but many showers will be away from populated places.

- High pressure moves closer to NZ this weekend and brushes northern parts of the country next week. Despite the high not perfectly coming in, it will bring a generally drier set-up for most regions. But storms south of NZ and cold fronts from the Southern Ocean area will brush Southland and the south-western corner of the South Island.
