- One big high is departing NZ and before the next arrives we have some wet weather moving through. On Friday, as the high currently over the South Island moves out to our east, a small area of low pressure and some isolated pockets of rain (possibly heavy) will move through from west to east. This looks likely to clear into the weekend as a cold southerly heads up and over much of the country by Sunday.
The sticking point? Showers and gloomier weather stays around parts of the Eastern North Island.

This is most likely to produce a narrow but heavy area of rain that is fed by tropical or subtropical northerlies - bringing heavy rain back into the upper South Island and upper half of the North Island. - Low pressure moves in to NZ from the Tasman Sea this weekend and completely falls apart - bringing downpours and isolated thunderstorms as it does so, mostly for the upper North Island, western North Island and the upper South Island.
By Sunday to Tuesday high pressure crosses NZ - and through next week milder northerlies return after a cooler start to the week.
By later next week the Southern Ocean storms cover most of the weather maps - bringing a wintry burst of severe weather (and a lot of westerlies) into SE Australia - but before that reaches NZ we’re on the milder side of things.

- Severe weather continues to affect coastal NSW today as a Tasman Sea storm peaks in power - before easing over the next couple of days.
We have the latest on wind gusts, wind forecast, rainfall and those most affected - including some parts of Vic, the A.C.T and SE Qld.
Big Picture we see some big storms south of Australia brushing the southern coastline in the week ahead - with more bursts of wind, temperature fluctuations and a chance of further wet weather. Inland areas and the northern half of Australia looks most settled and dry.

The subtropical flow will be windy from the north as the large low interacts with a powerful outgoing high pressure zone.
Severe weather is therefore possible in both main islands over the coming days - and MetService has a number of warnings and watches in force now.
We cover NZ’s weather over the coming days, weekend and into the start of next week - plus a 7 day rainfall map.

- This month around New Zealand, Australia and the region we see big highs and big lows - bringing decent stretches of variety with our weather.
For those who need more rain in southern Australia and Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand - there may not be a lot of relief on the way, but some rain is possible. We show you how much and where.
High pressure is still quite large - and this month drifts further into the tropics, creating the peak of the dry season for the tropics. These big highs still look set to be in the mix for both NZ and Australia - but by mid July the Southern Ocean may be the more dominant force, with a large pool of low pressure which may affect the SE of Australia into a large part of New Zealand
July looks to be a month of big lows and big highs - bringing variety to many regions in the south and around NZ, and keeping conditions fairly dry and settled in the tropical region

- Sydney is among a number of eastern cities and centres in the firing line of an east coast storm that will see heavy rain and strong to severe gale winds over the coming days (and dangerous beach & marine conditions).
The storm is expected to peak in strength around Wednesday/Thursday before drifting east away from New South Wales and towards New Zealand.
We track the movement of the storm, the areas with highest rain and where the winds will be strongest (mostly coastal).
VIC, the A.C.T, Tas and Qld are all brushed by this weather too - even outback parts of NSW may have a fairly brisk southerly for a time, which fades out in Queensland.
Conditions ease by Friday.

Heavy rain, downpours and potentially isolated thunderstorms are forecast along with gusty to gale force winds - all with a subtropical connection.

- A large low will engulf most of the Tasman Sea region this week bringing severe gales and heavy rain into eastern NSW for a few days with the risk of official weather warnings from BoM.
On the other side of Australia lows and cold fronts continue to pummel WA, mostly south of Perth but some showery weather may go right up to Carnarvon.
For those in SA, Vic the A.C.T and Tas, you have changeable weather with milder and drier days, and windier, cooler and wetter/showery days.
NT and Qld look mostly settled, once the rain and downpours clear through today (Monday).

- Severe weather is back in the forecast later this week after we kick off July with high pressure at the start of this week. The settled, cooler, start to the week will give way to subtropical winds later this week. The large low brings instability around Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the top of the South Island and top of the North Island both most exposed to the rain and wind.

- Severe weather risks continue around NZ’s two main islands for the rest of Friday and going into Saturday, before conditions ease on Sunday and going into the start of next.
Next week kicks off with incoming high pressure and some colder air around the South Island - but it’s likely ahead of more sub-tropical winds and rain/showers from another large low engulfing much of the Tasman Sea.
