Namibia powerlifter Phillipus Shanghadi, who brought home a bronze medal last month, has dedicated his historic achievement to Her Excellency, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as a symbol of national pride and inspiration for future athletes.
Shangadi scooped the third overall best lifter at the Powerlifting World Championships held in Brazil last month.
Namibian powerlifter Phillipus Shangadi has lamented the several challenges he faces, without formal recognition or support adding that he hopes his success will open doors for upcoming powerlifters.
He admitted that the strain of pursuing powerlifting without sufficient support has made him reconsider him taking part next year's powerlifting event to be held in Poland.
Shangadi has called on government and sporting authorities to do more to recognise and support Namibian athletes across all disciplines.

The family of seven-year-old, Hazel Uiras, who was shot and killed at Windhoek’s Hakahana location last week, is calling for the 55-year-old suspect to remain in custody without a bail option, insisting he is dangerous.
Uiras was playing with other children in the street near her home, when the male suspect fired a gun at them hitting her and also injuring another 16-year-old, Ismael Xamseb.
Ismael Xamseb, who is currently hospitalised at Katutura hospital, was hit a bullet from the gun while attempting to flee.
Uiras's grandmother, Christina Uiras, said she was a bright and lively child, and her sudden death has left the family heartbroken and struggling to cope.

Windhoek High Court, Deputy Judge President Hannelie Prinsloo, on Monday dismissed the application brought by the Katutura Ratepayers Association, alleging that the ECN unfairly rejected its manual nomination forms for the upcoming November elections.
In her judgement, she said the Electoral Court lacked jurisdiction and was not the appropriate forum to hear the matter.
Meanwhile, the association's chairperson, Shaun Gariseb, says they will now approach the Electoral Tribunal in their quest for justice on issue.

The Windhoek mayor, Ndeshihafela Larandja, announced the renaming of six streets during a street renaming ceremony on Friday.
Larandja said the names selected followed several consultations and a subsequent council resolution that saw it fit to honour the chosen individuals.
The renamed streets include Rolls Royce and Isabella Streets which will now be called Reverend Frederick Joseph street, and the Khomasdal stadium will now be called the Bobby Sissing Stadium.
Barug Street in Katutura will now be called Dr. Fleming Aspara Street, while Sydney Atkinson Street in Olympia will now be called Aaron Shihepo Street.
