Hangala Foods has officially commenced production of its new locally manufactured maize meal brand, Otavi Golden Maize, processed near Otavi in the Otjozondjupa Region.
This follows the inauguration of the newly established Hangala Ombanje milling plant on Friday.
The plant produces maize meal in multiple grades and packaging sizes, including super maize meal, special sifted maize and un-sifted maize meal sourced and processed locally.
Founder of Hangala Foods, Leake Hangala, provided an overview of the history of the farm.
Meanwhile, the company`s commercial manager, Robert Louw, spoke on the offtake agreements with local retailers.
The milling plant was constructed over a period of 18 months at a cost of N$35 million, and employs 40 workers, with 38 of them holding permanent positions.

Economist, Almandro Jansen said when tourists spend on transport, food, fuel, and retail across extended value chains, these multiplier effects rarely appear in formal tourism accounts.
Jansen also highlighted that Namibia is rapidly becoming a global and regional filming destination, which is likely to improve tourism figures.
Jansen said overall, the hospitality sector is well positioned for a strong finish this year backed by school holidays, holiday travels, festival events happening during December.

The initiative aims to make early childhood learning resources more relatable and accessible to Namibian learners.
The collaboration kicked off with a week-long workshop in Windhoek, where participants were trained to translate and record the animations to meet high-quality standards.
