The Khomas Region’s Head of the Crime Investigation Division, Deputy Commissioner Fredrik Ndjadila, says police have launched a high-level investigation into the disappearance of Beatus Iiyambo, who went missing two months ago after travelling from the Omusati Region to Windhoek for work.
The police incorporated sniffer dogs as well as checking Iiyambo’s last cellphone connectivity.
Ndjadila said police are conducting what he described as a “spiderweb” investigation, expanding in all directions, including investigations with various people in the Khomas Region as well as Iiyambo’s family in Omusati.

The newly appointed head of the Tourism Protection Sub-Division, Chief Inspector Christina van Dunem daFonsech-Shikongo, has started strong in her new role, saying five cases have been registered and six suspects arrested last week in connection with criminal activities targeting tourists.
DaFonsech-Shikongo, also known as Fonseca, said two accused were denied bail.
The tourist division last week impounded two vehicles used in the commission of crime, including a blue Polo Vivo.
Da Fonsech- Shikongo said the lawful vehicle owner had given his car to a certain individual to be sold, but it was instead used to rob tourists. She said the police recovered a cellphone stolen from the tourists.
In this case, she said two suspects were arrested while one remains at large. They appeared in court and were granted N$3 000 bail.

Agriculture Minister Inge Zaamwani warned farmers not to privately import or use Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccines on their own because this could cause the whole country to lose its FMD-free without vaccination status.
Zaamwani said only government is authorised to import and use the vaccine, and any farmer found in possession of it without approval would be breaking the law.
Zaamwani said this on Thursday during the launch of the FMD Support Fund and the appointment of the National FMD Task Force on Thursday in Windhoek.
The launch saw N$11 million pledged in 10 minutes, and the support fund aims to protect Namibia’s livestock sector and FMD-free without vaccination status.

Deputy minister of fisheries, Ruthy Masake, says the emerging Atlantic salmon aquaculture sector could transform Namibia from wild-capture fisheries to high-value aquaculture and agro-processing.
Masake was speaking in Windhoek on Tuesday at a seminar introducing a planned Norwegian-Namibian venture, projected to create about 5 000 jobs.
The venture aims to revive coastal economies and generate foreign-exchange earnings from high-value exports, while driving economic diversification, sustainable growth and strengthening food security.
The project aims to establish a full salmon value chain, including offshore farming, onshore hatcheries, processing facilities and export logistics, with Lüderitz expected to emerge as a new aquaculture hub.

Handing over a petition on behalf of the former employees on Tuesday to the Chief Justice of the High and Supreme Courts, Renier Bougard said they had learned that one employee recently received payment, which demonstrates that funds are available.

A 45-year-old Namibian man stranded in Brazil is seeking assistance to return home. The man, Daniel Petrus Botha, who says he is from Walvis Bay, was left stranded in the South American country after he was robbed by criminals who took his personal documents, including his passport, cellphone, and money. At the moment, Botha lives on the streets in a plastic structure in Barra Funda, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
A Namibian national, Trofimus Shimutwikeni, who currently works in Brazil, found Botha on the street and reached out to the media house for assistance. In a video provided, Botha pleaded for help.

The health ministry is continuing to carry out malaria prevention measures to curb the spread of mosquitos amongst others, routine indoor residual spraying in communities that are most at risk.
This is in response to the 11 deaths, 604 admitted patients and 8 760 malaria cases recorded as of 25 January 2026.
The recorded cases mark a sharp 68 percent increase compared to the 5229 cases reported during the same period in 2025.
The ministry’s control public relations officer, Walters Kamaya, said at least 20 health districts have exceeded the epidemic threshold and are experiencing outbreaks.
Affected health districts include Eenhana, Engela and Okongo, amongst others.
