Only two of the dismissed seven Katima Mulilo Town Councillors showed up Wednesday afternoon for a meeting with Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa.
Sankwasa used the opportunity to explain why he dissolved the entire council.
In a termination notice, gazetted on 15 August 2025, Sankwasa announced the dismissal of the councillors, after they failed to comply with an earlier notice that gave them the right of reply.
The Katima Mulilo Town Councillors came under fire in recent months over allegations of corruption, which saw them exchanging large pieces of land with vehicles and other movable properties.
Sankwasa explained to those present at the meeting the ground on which they were dismissed.

The defence of Namcor corruption case accused, Olivia Dunaiski, argues the ACC investigation shows she received 'only' N$10 000 directly from Venus Technologies, far less than amounts allegedly linked to other accused.
Lawyer Kilroy Kasper, argued that the N$10 000 payment to Dunaiski was a legitimate consultation fee for a medical centre feasibility study, unrelated to her work at Namcor trading, and not a bribe.
ACC chief investigator, Oberty Inambao, countered that the case is not about the amount Dunaiski received but the key role she played as commercial manager.
Inambao explained that, in her role as commercial manager at Namcor Trading, Dunaiski authorised fuel supplies valued at approximately N$238 million, far exceeding company credit limits.
