- The Gender Equity and Human Rights Office has recorded 58,000 cases of gender-base-violence and sexual violence between 2018 and 2021.
The victims of these cases were attended to by the National Department of Health.
This was revealed by the Gender Equity and Human Rights Officer, Cathleen Alua, during the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Base Violence public hearing in Port Moresby, last week.
She told the Committee that another 36,000 cases were victims of violence generally.
The Parliamentary Committee on GBV spent day two of their hearings listening to testimonies from frontline government departments from the health and law enforcement ministries.

- A prime suspect into last week’s robbing and shooting-to-death of a Chinese businessman in Madang town has surrendered himself to police on Monday.
According to police reports, the suspect is being identified as 23-year-old Max Wuss from Sotmeri Village in the Wosera- Gawi District of East Sepik Province.
Young Max is reported to have been amongst five other young men who allegedly committed the crime last Thursday afternoon.

- The Election Joint Security Task Force Command Centre is now officially open.
It will accommodate representatives from the Royal PNG Constabulary, PNG Defence Force and Correctional Service during the 2022 national elections.
When officiating at the launch, Police Minister, William Onglo says the command centre will be the main coordinating venue for security operations.
