- Lisa Bun, a Marine Protected Area Officer with the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority, warns that the ocean is suffocating.
Whilst Port Moresby is growing, the amount of rubbish or waste is also increasing. Without proper waste management, much of that rubbish ends up in drains, rivers and eventually the ocean.
Plastic carried through these waterways is now threatening the Coral Triangle region, which is home to 76 percent of the world’s coral species.
What begins as rubbish on our streets is becoming a serious threat to our ocean.

Every wet season, streets flood, homes are affected, and people struggle to move around to and from within the city.
Blocked drains, illegal dumping and plastic waste makes flooding worse in the capital city.
But the waste does not stay on land. Heavy rainfall causes flooding that carries it through drains and waterways into the sea, threatening the Coral Triangle, one of the world’s richest marine areas.

As of mid-night tonight (15/04/26), retail fuel prices nationwide will be reset back to the prices of last month (March).
That is the guarantee from the consumer watchdog – the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission in a media conference in Port Moresby, today (15/04/26).
This means, fuel service station selling the increased April prices of K6.10 for petrol, K7.69 for diesel and K7.44 for kerosene, will readjust their prices back to K4.39 for petrol, K4.44 for diesel and K4.09 for kerosene.
