- The threat of severe weather brought storm chasing groups from around Nebraska and across the country.
Even a crew from the Weather Channel set up near Grand Island.
I headed out with 4 chasers from the Great Plains Severe Weather Team, while we didn't catch sight of any tornadoes, we did come close.
"It looks like it's actually raining in Greeley right now." Said Jeff Crecelius, storm chaser with the Great Plains Severe Weather Team.
A tornado warning was issued in Greeley County just before 4:30 P.M. Tuesday.
"So we'll have to get north of Greeley to see the tornado." Said Crecelius.
I set out with the Great Plains Severe Weather Team just before 3 P.M. with a moderate to high risk for severe weather.
"Is that a wall cloud right over there. Right straight ahead of us." Asked Crecelius to the other storm chasers in the car.
"So that could turn into a tornado?" Asked Lauren.

- Today is the 34th anniversary of the Night of the Twisters. In 1980, seven tornadoes struck Grand Island, killing five people, injuring more than 200, and wreaking havoc across the city.
For one mother and daughter it's a night they won't forget. 100 year-old Elba Dawson was babysitting her 14 month-old granddaughter Elizabeth. She heard on the tornado warnings on the radio. So, she grabbed Elizabeth from her crib and ran to the hallway to meet her husband. They didn't have a basement. Elba and her husband held onto their granddaughter as the roof was ripped off their home.
"The roof was off Leonard looked up and said well our bedrooms gone and part of the utility room was gone," said Elba.
"My mother told me later she kept thinking is it never going to end," said Mary.
Elba's house was on the corner of Oak and Dodge and was almost completely destroyed. Elizabeth's nickname is the tornado baby.

- With construction of the Keystone XL pipeline on hold in Nebraska, TransCanda is exploring other options to transport its oil. TransCanada is considering ways to deliver the crude oil by rail to the United States.
This is according to CEO Russ Girling. In an interview with Bloomberg News, Girling says the pipeline company is looking to modify existing contracts with Keystone XL customers to allow for rail shipment. That could cost twice as much, compared to sending oil through the pipeline.
Both nominees for Nebraska Governor say Americans have waited long enough for a decision.

- Amidst the rural healthcare crisis, doctors are finding ways to ease the shortage. Rural physicians are relying more and more on nurse practitioners and physician assistants to take some of the weight off their shoulders. And they are utilizing new technology to connect with doctors hundreds of miles away...
Telemedicine is changing rural healthcare. Doctor Jeff Harrison told me the technology has been extremely successful in eliminating the isolation of small town physicians. The technology can connect rural emergency rooms to metropolitan hospitals in a matter of seconds.
A new piece of technology is revolutionizing healthcare. Many doctors are turning to telemedicine to bandage the problem.
"You have camera in the room patients come in and now you've got someone sitting 200 miles away sitting there helping you through trauma."
Some experts suggest allowing nurse practitioners and physician assistants to function to the full exten...

- Rural medicine in Nebraska is in critical condition. The number of doctors in rural areas is shrinking. But it's not just a problem here, the issue spans across the country.
Over 20 percent of the U.S. population lives in rural areas, but, only 9 percent of the nation's physicians practice there. Experts predict that the shortage is only going to get worse.
Health care in rural Nebraska isn't terminal, but it's on life support.
"You've got declining populations of young people in rural areas, the only growth is there are more people who need more care," said Dr. Jeff Harrison, the assistant dean of admissions at UNMC.
According to the American journal of preventative medicine, people who lived in metropolitan areas between 2005 and 2009 lived about 3 years longer than those living in rural areas,
"It's critical right now and its likely to get more critical as we move forward as a number of the more senior practitioners f...

- Neighbors' who live adjacent to the new Russ's market are concerned the alley behind the store hasn't been built up to grade with surrounding property.
Residents say the grade issue will cause water runoff problems as the alley behind the new store is paved.
But the city and project engineers disagree.
"The engineers are good with it. The city is good with it. My office is good with it. And as of yesterday it's a go on how we're going to make the alley work for everybody's benefit," says Richard Aavio, superintendent contractor for the project.
Mark Evans, a building inspector for Hastings says they're trying to keep the neighbors happy but with this type of project, it's not always easy to do.
"The city is always trying to keep the need of the neighbors and that's very difficult in a large development," says Mark Evans, building inspector for Hastings.
The city and the engineers are making sure residents wo...
