- A 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit western Colombia on Monday, with the powerful quake shaking as far as neighboring Ecuador, prompting evacuations and killing at least 111 people.
The epicenter of the earthquake has been reported by the U.S. Geological Survey in San Jose Del Palmar, a municipality in the Choco region with around 4,800 people, located around 250 miles west of Colombia's capital of Bogotá.
The USGS said the earthquake struck at a depth of 66 miles and was felt as far as Ecuador and Panama, though minimal damage was reported there.
Local officials confirmed at least 40 people were killed in the Risaralda region and 27 people in the Valle del Cauca region. Risaralda is where the hard-hit city of Pereira is located and Valle del Cauca is where Colombia's third-biggest city of Cali is located.
The governor said at least three of those killed in Valle del Cauca were children.

- The Twin Falls Police Department held a briefing regarding the In-N-Out shooting that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026.
There is no known motive, and the suspect is believed to have acted alone. The suspect died at the scene via a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Ten people received gunshot wounds, and three lost their lives. Two victims were wounded inside the restaurant, one fatally. Two were wounded outside the restaurant, one fatally. Three were wounded on Blue Lakes Boulevard with no fatalities. Three were wounded in the visitor center parking lot, one fatally.
The good Samaritan who intervened was shot. He drew a pistol, but did not fire. He is a former Twin Falls Police Officer and a former Idaho State trooper, not currently employed.

- An ICE operation in Eagle is drawing attention after video captured agents questioning a man who says he’s a U.S. citizen born and raised in Idaho. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were not involved in the immigration operation itself. According to the Ada County sheriff’s office, a deputy was flagged down after a suspect ran through neighborhood backyards before ICE took that suspect into custody.
The man who shared the video told CBS2, “If it happened to me as a citizen, it can happen to anyone,” adding he believes the encounter was “a violation of our rights.”
