Responding units discovered a rooster-fighting operation at the location where several deceased animals were found on scene. Precinct 1 Constable units, Harris County Sheriff’s Office detectives, and SPCA personnel responded to the call.
Multiple suspects were detained, and four individuals are currently in custody. Possible charges include animal cruelty and gambling.
Approximately 70 or more roosters were located, most of them alive.

Police stated the man became increasingly belligerent, and when officers attempted to detain him, he pulled a knife from his waistband and stabbed Officer Joaquin Garza above his left ear, causing severe bleeding. His partner then fired his weapon, striking and killing the suspect.
Officer Garza, who has been with the department for two and a half years, was taken to Memorial Hermann and is expected to be okay.
