According to Houston police, the man was inside a garage with a woman on Fairway Drive when a gunshot came from inside the house. He was struck in the stomach area and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Officers then established a perimeter around the home. The suspect was believed to be inside, and SWAT was working to get the suspect out.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting happened during a birthday party around 1:20 a.m. on December 17, 2023, on Juliabora Street in southeast Houston. A physical fight among several partygoers escalated into gunfire. Police at the time said a large number of people scattered into the streets and several were detained.
Puente who was 67 years old, was found in the living room with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A juvenile girl also suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg. She was treated at a hospital and later released.

The Houston Fire Department and Houston Police Department responded, along with a dive team, and pulled the man’s body from the bayou.
Norma Mottu, a concerned neighbor who lives in the area and was driving by, called on Mayor Whitmire to work with the police chief and direct more resources toward investigating bodies found in the bayous.

Mottu expressed concern for friends who run and exercise along Buffalo Bayou and urged city leaders to protect residents.

- CYPRESS, TX - Family members, community leaders, and law enforcement gathered for a candlelight vigil honoring 5-year-old Zah’Layah Walton, who was killed in a road rage shooting.
During the vigil, Zah’Layah’s mother recalled the final conversation she had with her daughter before the shooting.
“My baby was like, ‘Mommy, can I have a Hot Pocket when I get home?’ And the last thing I said was yes,” she said.
The mother said she did not speak to or engage with the accused driver before her vehicle’s rear window shattered. She said she later realized Zah’Layah had been shot in the head.
“There’s no instruction manual for grieving,” she said. “I just want him to know what he took from me.”
She denied claims that she contributed to the confrontation and said the vehicle’s untinted windows allowed the shooter to see her children inside. She called for the person responsible to be held accountable.<...

- Jeremy Porter has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 5-year-old Zah’Layah Walton during a road rage shooting in Cypress Saturday night.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Porter was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail.
Zah’Layah’s mother was driving westbound on Grant Road with five children younger than 10 inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred. Zah’Layah was struck by gunfire and flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Two other children were injured by shattered glass.

- A man is in critical condition, and a woman is recovering following a road rage shooting involving an armed detention officer.
Houston police said the incident started near the North Loop and Ella and ended on the West Loop near Westheimer.
The man driving an Escalade was shot once, while a woman inside was shot in the arm. A 7-year-old child who was inside the Escalade was not injured.
The detention officer was inside a Camaro and was not injured, but a woman traveling with him was transported to a hospital with injuries from the collision.
Another man in a white truck at one point got into a physical altercation with the Escalade and left his woman passenger. He was quickly detained by responding officers.
Investigators are still determining who fired the shots, and no immediate charges are expected.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the Pines of Woodforest Apartments in East Harris County and attempted CPR, but the man was pronounced deceased when EMS arrived.

- A suspected burglar was critically injured after a Harris County sheriff’s deputy shot him inside her neighbor’s home.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the neighbor was out of town, and the deputy checked the house after believing it was being burglarized. While holding the suspect at gunpoint, she called for assistance, and the suspect attempted to disarm her before she fired her weapon.
He was flown by Life Flight to a hospital in critical condition, and the deputy was treated for minor injuries.
