- Tentative 60-day US-Iran ceasefire deal would reopen Hormuz, open nuclear negotiations

- Description
- U.S. and Iranian negotiators reached a tentative agreement Thursday to extend the ceasefire in the 3-month-old war by 60 days and start a new round of talks on Iran’s nuclear program, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter.
Iran did not immediately confirm any deal. Vice President JD Vance on Thursday evening confirmed there was a tentative agreement, but said it was unclear if President Donald Trump would approve it.
“It’s hard to say exactly when or if the president’s going to sign,” Vance told reporters.
He added: “We’re going back and forth on a couple of language points.”
The emerging memorandum of understanding came as the fragile ceasefire in the war between the U.S. and Iran appeared to be wavering. The latest flare-up in fighting happened less than a day earlier, when Kuwait intercepted missiles fired from Iran, according to U.S. Central Command.
The memorandum makes clear that Iran...

- Trump administration officials have pushed the office tasked with printing the nation's money to move forward with designing a commemorative $250 bill with President Donald Trump's portrait and signature, should legislation to create the new currency pass, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.
It would mark the first time a living person has appeared on U.S. currency in more than 150 years. As of now, federal law explicitly states only deceased people can appear on United States currency.
But some Republicans in Congress are working to change that.
Republican Rep. Joe Wilson, of South Carolina, has introduced a bill ordering the Treasury Department to print $250 Federal Reserve notes featuring a portrait of Trump.
The bill has 15 Republican cosponsors, a small sum for legislation that was introduced more than a year ago.

While his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, initially told her husband in public, "You did such a great job," we now know her thoughts in private were far different.
In an interview with CBS's "Sunday Morning," the former first lady said, "I wasn’t horrified. I was frightened because I had never ever seen Joe like that."
When asked, "What happened?" Biden replied:
"I don’t know what happened. As I watched it unfold, I thought Oh my God, he’s having a stroke."
The cognitive health of the 46th president took center stage in the 2024 Presidential race, which three weeks later, Biden dropped out of.

The app was created by Robinhood, the commission-free trading and investing platform, and the Bank of New York, both of which were selected by the Treasury Department to manage Trump Accounts in this initial phase.

The exchange marked the second time in three days that the United States has struck Iranian targets, with U.S. officials describing the operations as acts of self-defense even as the attacks complicated ongoing negotiations to end the war.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) did not confirm which base it targeted. However, U.S. Central Command said Kuwait — which hosts a U.S. base — intercepted the missiles, calling the Iranian attack on one of America’s top allies an “egregious ceasefire violation.”

The Department of Justice says the fund is designed to compensate people who claim they were unfairly targeted by politically motivated investigations or prosecutions by the federal government. The program would reportedly total roughly $1.776 billion.
The money stems from a settlement tied to the leak of President Donald Trump’s tax information, after IRS records were improperly disclosed to media outlets. But while supporters argue the fund is needed to restore trust in government institutions, critics say major details remain unclear.
According to the Justice Department, the fund would allow individuals to file claims alleging they were victims of political “weaponization” by federal agencies. Attorney General...

- Former President Joe Biden sued the Justice Department on Tuesday in an effort to block the release of audio recordings and transcripts of his interview with a ghostwriter that were obtained by the special counsel who investigated his handling of classified documents.
Biden's lawyers said in a lawsuit filed in Washington's federal court that the Justice Department plans to release the files to Congress and a conservative group, the Heritage Foundation, after the department had previously argued that they were exempt from disclosure under the public records law.
Biden's lawyers argued that the disclosure would “constitute an unwarranted invasion of President Biden’s privacy.”

Perhaps most glaringly, the Senate institutionalist who long supported the filibuster reversed his position in a failed effort to advance voting restrictions that are a priority for the president.
None of it worked. On Tuesday, Cornyn became the latest in a line of Republicans who lost their primaries after falling out of favor with a president with little tolerance for dissent and a seemingly insatiable appetite for retribution. The four-term senator lost by double digits to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who Trump endorsed last week as “a true MAGA Warrior.”

- A massive chemical tank holding nearly a million gallons of a corrosive liquid imploded and collapsed Tuesday at a Washington paper mill, killing at least one worker and leaving nine others unaccounted for, authorities said.
Nine other people were injured in the spill, some severely. Emergency responders were still working on recovery efforts at Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co. in Longview, but hours after the implosion, some liquid remained in the collapsed tank, complicating efforts to reach victims, the Longview Fire Department said Tuesday evening.
“The tank remains unstable, creating hazardous conditions for emergency personnel,” the fire department said in a written statement. “Responders are continuing efforts to structurally reinforce and stabilize the site before additional recovery operations can safely proceed.”
Among those injured was a responding firefighter. Some victims suffered burns or inhalation injuries, and the severity of...

- Iran on Tuesday denounced the most recent U.S. strikes as a sign of “bad faith and unreliability” as negotiations pressed on toward a possible deal to end the war, and the Islamic Republic began restoring internet access after one of the longest nationwide shutdowns ever.
The U.S. military characterized Monday’s strikes in southern Iran as defensive, with targets that included missile launch sites and minelaying boats, and said the U.S. acted with “restraint” in light of the weekslong ceasefire.
Iran’s foreign ministry called the strikes a ceasefire violation and warned that Washington would bear responsibility for “all consequences,” without elaborating.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will leave no act of aggression unanswered,” it added in a statement.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said Tuesday that it shot down at least one drone and deterred another drone and a fighter jet that entered its airspace, according to ...

- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, easily defeating four-term Sen. John Cornyn in the latest contest where President Donald Trump sought to oust an incumbent he saw as not sufficiently loyal.
Trump endorsed Paxton last week, calling him a “true MAGA warrior.” Paxton’s victory in Tuesday’s runoff makes Cornyn — who was first elected to the Senate in 2002 — the first Republican senator from Texas to lose the party’s nomination for reelection.
Cheers rang through the ballroom at Paxton’s election night party when the race was called, as the stage filled with supporters holding Paxton campaign signs.
Paxton took the stage to chants of “Ken, Ken, Ken,” and he quickly gave credit to Trump.
“When everyone in Washington told him to abandon me and abandon the people of Texas, he didn’t listen,” Paxton said. “President Trump is the leader of our party, and his ...

Kennedy shared the clip of himself grabbing the tails of the non-venomous black racer snakes on his personal social media accounts, noting in the caption that he was removing them from the patio of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.
An avid outdoorsman, Kennedy has posted numerous photos and videos over the years of himself interacting with wild animals. He’s also shared tales of such interactions, including admitting once planting a bear carcass in New York’s Central Park as a prank.
Internet users reacted with joy, incredulity and outcry at Kennedy’s latest clip, which shows the snakes biting in the direction of his fingers as Oz asks questions about the snakes. Kenne...

- Russia fired more than 100 drones and two ballistic missiles at Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian air force said Tuesday, as the country’s foreign ministry noted that Moscow’s recent threat to hit Kyiv especially hard from the air brought nothing new.
Russia on Monday urged foreign citizens, including members of diplomatic missions, to leave the Ukrainian capital as quickly as possible and told residents to steer clear of military and government facilities. It said that “systemic strikes” on Kyiv were being prepared.
Russia has regularly bombarded Kyiv, often causing dozens of civilian casualties with every attack, since it launched an all-out invasion of neighboring Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio by phone Monday that the U.S. should evacuate its diplomatic staff from Kyiv, a foreign ministry statement said. Rubio didn’t say whether the U.S. State Department wou...

- Yet another White House construction project is underway, though this one is meant to be only temporary.
Crews are erecting an octagon-shaped cage on the South Lawn that will host next month’s UFC bout, helping mark the nation’s 250th anniversary — and President Donald Trump ‘s 80th birthday.
Online renderings depict what the completed, wire-mesh-fence-ringed fight space is expected to look like ahead of the June 14 event. It will be ringed by a red, white and blue stage under a towering arch featuring stars and stripes patterns and two large screens carrying the action live.
The cage and stage will themselves be surrounded by thousands of temporary seats, including ringside space for a full marching band that can set the entire scene to blaring music.
The project is part of a series of events celebrating the semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence’s signing on July 4, 1776. Other planned functions include an I...

- The Town of Greece is preparing to investigate allegations stemming from a New York State Police report that led to Greece Police Chief Michael Wood being placed on administrative leave and Deputy Chief Naser Zenelovic's resignation.
The report, compiled in 2024, said an officer alleged instances of misconduct against Zenelovic — including stalking, falsifying records and creating a hostile work environment — between 2019 and 2022, when Zenelovic was a supervisor for the Rochester Police Department.
Attorney Cory Missell, senior counsel for Tully Rinckey who is not affiliated with the case, said the allegations are heavy.
"It's extremely serious," Missell said. "I mean, we're talking about criminal conduct that a normal citizen would be charged for."
Missell said it appeared the Monroe County District Attorney's office, then led by Sandra Doorley, declined to prosecute the case.

- A man is now awaiting sentencing after a jury convicted him Tuesday of attempted murder and assault, both as a hate crime, following a stabbing on a Perinton trail last summer.
Authorities said Derrick Van Epps stabbed Dylan Ghaemi — a first-generation American whose parents are from Iran — multiple times with a hunting knife June 23 on the Indian Hill Trail.
Ghaemi testified Thursday that he said hello to Van Epps as they passed each other on the trail, before Van Epps ran at him from behind and started stabbing him before Ghaemi managed to wrestle Van Epps off him.
During the third and final day of testimony in the trial Friday, a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the investigator who interviewed Van Epps following his arrest took the stand. The jury watched the recorded interview, during which Van Epps could be heard telling the investigator he "doesn’t like people who aren’t white" and "I should have kept hitting him."

"There are some circumstances leading up to it in terms of appointment times and things like that that led her to be off of the normal routine with the driving lessons," said Captain Greg Bello from the Rochester Police Department.
While she was waiting outside the school, 58-year-old Wayne Plummer pulled up in a car, according to police.
