- Description
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he is optimistic about the potential for a resumption in nuclear talks with Iran despite a shaky ceasefire in the war looking increasingly in doubt.
Rubio told lawmakers Tuesday in his first public testimony since the Iran war began that the Iranians have agreed to negotiate on nuclear points that they had not been willing to address in the past but would not offer an assessment on what those talks might produce.
The testimony came after President Donald Trump told ABC News he thinks there will be an agreement to end the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz "over the next week." Trump has said that repeatedly, as the two sides have been negotiating for more than a month.
A key sticking point seemingly derailing the talks has been Israel's continued attacks in Lebanon on Hezbollah.

- Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — The family of Zy'Jae St. Pierre is desperately looking for closure.
On June 1, 2025, the 5-year-old boy climbed the railings of the Andrews Street Bridge and fell into the Genesee River in downtown Rochester. His body has not been found.
"It's been hard — very hard on the family — very, very hard," said Latoraya Bryan, Zy'Jae's grandmother. "We haven't received any information about finding him."
For 12 months, Bryan has been scouring the riverbanks for any signs.
"Hopefully this year I'll find a piece of clothes, something, because we don't have closure."

- Within the span of an hour on Monday, President Donald Trump said both that he doesn't care if peace talks with Iran were over and that talks continue "at a rapid pace."
Trump posted the latter on social media after CNBC quoted him saying, “I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less," about negotiations with Iran, which he reportedly described as "very boring."
Trump's comments followed reports from multiple Iranian state-controlled news outlets that Tehran pulled out of talks because of Israeli strikes on Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of ceasefire violations and announced Monday he had ordered Israel Defense Forces to strike terrorist targets in southern Beirut, saying, "There will not be a situation in which Hezbollah attacks our cities and our citizens.”
Trump told multiple outlets that Iran did not inform him they were suspending negotiations.

Gertner reportedly disclosed the texts to ensure they wouldn’t harm her husband’s efforts to flip the Senate seat. They were hidden from the public until Saturday.
She called negative coverage of Platner “shameful" in a statement following the Journal's report.
“We love each other deeply. The "anti-weaponization fund," which the DOJ said was created to treat "tremendous abuse, harm, and hate unfairly shown to so many people," was blocked by a judge last week. U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled on an outside challenge to the Trump administration by temporarily halting the flow of the funds. The judge scheduled arguments for June 12 hearing on whether to extend the pause.
In a post to the social media platform X, the DOJ wrote that it "disagrees strongly" with the judge's decision.

But Pratt is taking on the Democratic establishment in a very blue city and state. Getting the attention of many celebrities for his more 'common sense' approach.
"I never planned on being the mayor of LA. I only ran to have a bigger platform, to expose all the negligence, which is the reason I even ran because this person in charge burned my house down," Pratt told television host & comedian Bill Maher.

- US lifts Hormuz blockade on Iranian ports as world waits for Trump's decision on ceasefire
- Runtime

- Description
- President Donald Trump on Friday announced he was lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports enacted last month. The move comes amid media reports and administration messaging that Washington and Tehran appear to be drawing closer to a deal that could lead to ending the conflict. Iranian officials have rejected that notion. TWZ cannot confirm either side’s assertions.
“Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of ‘heading home!’” Trump proclaimed on Truth Social, referring to the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic chokepoint has been largely closed to most traffic by Iran since not long after the launch of Epic Fury on Feb. 28.
Trump’s comments may reflect a still unsigned Memorandum of Agreement with Iran that paves the way for reopening the Strait and is designed to create negotiating space to deal with the larger issues of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

- President Donald Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, was allegedly targeted in an assassination plot tied to an Iraqi national accused of coordinating multiple terror attacks linked to Iran-backed militant groups, according to an exclusive report from the New York Post.
Citing sources familiar with the investigation, The Post on Friday night reported that 32-year-old Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi allegedly discussed plans to kill Ivanka Trump in retaliation for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.
"After Qasem was killed, he [Al-Saadi] went around telling people 'we need to kill Ivanka to burn down the house of Trump the way he burned down our house,'" Entifadh Qanbar, who is a former deputy military attaché in the Iraqi embassy in Washington, told The Post.
According to the report, Al-Saadi allegedly referred to Soleimani as a mentor and vowed revenge against the Trump family after Soleimani...

- U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday he’s holding a White House Situation Room meeting with his advisers as he looks to make a “final determination” on moving forward with a deal to extend the Iran ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said the deal has not been finalized.
Trump confirmed the high-level talks the day after The Associated Press and other news outlets reported that U.S. and Iranian negotiators had come to terms on a tentative agreement. The deal would extend the fragile ceasefire by 60 days as new talks are held on Iran’s disputed nuclear program.
Trump wrote on social media that “Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb.” He said the strait must be reopened for international navigation and all sea mines destroyed.
Iran’s main negotiator said Friday that it has “no trust in guarantees or words,” only actions, underscoring lingering distrust after the U.S. and Israel have twice...

- Vietnam’s leader said Friday that the Strait of Hormuz has shown how one flashpoint can throw the rest of the world into turmoil, suggesting that the U.S. and China need to abide by international law to avoid provoking a global crisis as they vie for influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
Vietnamese leader To Lam was delivering the keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia’s premier defense summit, to an audience that included U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and a high-level delegation from China. Lam suggested that Iran’s stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz during the war in the Middle East has demonstrated how regional conflicts can have worldwide ramifications.
“Recent tensions along strategic maritime routes in the Middle East remind us that a single flashpoint can rapidly disrupt trade, energy supplies, logistics and social economic life across the globe,” the Vietnamese leader said.

- Description
- Louisiana lawmakers passed a new congressional map Friday designed to help Republicans pick up a seat while eliminating one of the state’s two majority-Black House districts, both of which are represented by Democrats.
Approval of the new House map came a month after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the state’s current map as an illegal racial gerrymander, weakening the landmark 1965 federal Voting Rights Act. That decision intensified a national redistricting battle fueled by President Donald Trump’s efforts to protect the Republicans’ slim House majority in the midterm elections. Louisiana is one of several Southern states now redrawing their maps to help Republicans.
Louisiana Republicans had considered drawing a map giving the party a shot at winning all six of the state’s U.S. House seats. But that would have required adding more Black voters to Republican-held districts, potentially backfiring with GOP losses.
The map approved Fr...

- Description
- Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin is assessing damage to its launch pad after a rocket exploded during a test firing, creating a giant orange fireball seen and felt for miles around.
The company fueled the massive New Glenn rocket Thursday night, hoping to briefly ignite the engines ahead of a satellite launch next week. But the 321-foot (98-meter), rocket blew up, taking part of the pad with it.
Emergency officials on Friday warned the public to avoid any wreckage that might wash ashore and to instead call 911.
Named after John Glenn, the first American in orbit, New Glenn is the rocket that Blue Origin plans to use to launch landers to the moon under NASA's Artemis program that aims to build a sprawling base near the moon's south pole. The goal is to land the first Artemis moonwalkers as early as 2028. Earlier this week, the space agency awarded a new contract to Blue Origin worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

- 11 residents are unaccounted for after a gas explosion in a Dallas apartment building, according to NBC 5.
Firefighters battled a large fire that erupted Thursday at an apartment complex in Dallas, where debris from one collapsed building lay heaped on the ground while flames and black smoke billowed into the sky. Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom like an explosion.
News video showed dozens of firefighters at the scene. Some had hoses trained on piles of smoking debris while others lifted and moved lumber and other burned wreckage as if searching for people underneath. Two firefighters with hoses towered above the blaze on long ladders, while another sprayed water from an upper floor window in a neighboring building.
It was not immediately known what caused the fire or if anyone was injured.
A nearby street was lined with firetrucks, ambulances and police vehicles with their lights flashing.

On Thursday, crews said six of the nine missing workers have been recovered and confirmed dead, with the other three remaining missing and presumed dead.
A total of eight people are currently confirmed dead as a result of the implosion.
The bodies of the six recovered workers were found near the employee breakroom area, according to firefighters, because the implosion occurred during a shift change.
Officials say a 900,000-gallon tank containing a highly destructive chemical called white liquor imploded at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co. facility just after 7:15 a.m.
At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson called it “the deadliest industrial tragedy in modern Washington state history.”

- Description
- U.S. and Iranian negotiators reached a tentative agreement Thursday to extend the ceasefire in the 3-month-old war by 60 days and start a new round of talks on Iran’s nuclear program, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter.
Iran did not immediately confirm any deal. Vice President JD Vance on Thursday evening confirmed there was a tentative agreement, but said it was unclear if President Donald Trump would approve it.
“It’s hard to say exactly when or if the president’s going to sign,” Vance told reporters.
He added: “We’re going back and forth on a couple of language points.”
The emerging memorandum of understanding came as the fragile ceasefire in the war between the U.S. and Iran appeared to be wavering. The latest flare-up in fighting happened less than a day earlier, when Kuwait intercepted missiles fired from Iran, according to U.S. Central Command.
The memorandum makes clear that Iran...
