- The Gates Police Department released body camera footage Friday showing an officer fatally shooting 27-year-old Haley Rodriguez during an encounter earlier this month.
An officer on routine patrol spotted Rodriguez, of Rochester, standing in the middle of Spencerport Road near Baier and Karl Fuchs drives around 1 a.m. Oct. 4, according to Police Chief Robert Long.
The officer pulled over to check on Rodriguez and noticed what appeared to be a revolver in her hand, Long said. Police later determined the weapon was a realistic-looking replica.
"From my understanding, it's part of a cane, or it's like a handle for a cane that can screw off, so that the end of it does look like a barrel of an actual revolver," Long said during Friday's press conference. "But they're looking into — I don't think it had any capability of actually firing, but it definitely looked real enough."

"We always invite people to help whichever way they can, because we are just a channel for that help to go to Ukraine," ROCMaidan board secretary Elena Dilai told 13WHAM.
Since February 2022, volunteers say the organization has shipped 32 containers carrying approximately 509 tons of supplies to Ukraine.

Rocco Stagnitto lost his son, Tony, to a heroin overdose 10 years ago. Two years later, his other son, Joey, died from an overdose.
Now, Stagnitto is creating permanent memorials to honor both sons and share their stories with others.
Tony was found unconscious behind a house on Evergreen Street in Rochester. Stagnitto recalled receiving the devastating news that his son was in a coma.
"I was told that he was in a coma and wasn't expected to survive," Stagnitto said. "I begged them to keep him alive till I can get home to say goodbye."
Five months after Tony's death, Stagnitto returned to the place where his son was found.
