- Town of Greece leaders voted unanimously Thursday to temporarily close a controversial motel to address reported ongoing health and safety concerns.
Dozens of taxpayers filled the Greece Town Hall to share their thoughts on the Studio 6 Extended Stay off West Ridge Road, which is under new ownership.
"I've been there for 10, 11 years, the constant police presence, fire departments, ambulances," Lucille Delvecchoo, a Greece taxpayer, said. "And I'm just wondering what you plan on doing."
The Town of Greece says that so far this year, there has already been more than 300 911 calls regarding the property, outpacing all other hotels in the area.
Some neighbors claim it's been plagued by safety concerns for years and want to see it close for good.

- A grand jury indictment unsealed Wednesday charged a Gates woman with physically abusing five children at an unlicensed daycare at her home, according to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said Casey Raetz, 31, was arrested Tuesday, charged with seven counts of assault and six counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Chief Robert Long from the Gates Police Department said the investigation began after one parent came forward with concerns about suspicious injuries.
"Through the investigation, we learned that there were multiple other children, all under the age of 7 years old, that had attended this location that also had similar suspicious injuries," Long said.
While Long could not elaborate on specific injuries, he said they were all non-life-threatening.
"The injuries were different in each child," he said. "Nothing severe, like broken bones or anything that we're aware of, but they all were...

- Canandaigua, N.Y. (WHAM) — A bomb threat led to an investigation Thursday morning at F.F. Thompson Hospital, according to the Canandaigua Police Department.
Police said the hospital received a call around 5:35 a.m., making the threat. University of Rochester Medicine said the triage desk at the hospital's emergency department "received a threat that was deemed credible and required immediate action."
Canandaigua Police Chief Matthew Nielsen said the threat was not directed at anyone specifically.
"The threat was not inside the hospital," he said. "It was actually a threat for more of the parking lot coming in from the outside."
Hospital leaders said the threat mentioned a black Audi with three people coming to the hospital.
The health system said law enforcement established a perimeter around the hospital, and emergency services were temporarily diverted to other facilities.

"They've come to me and said, 'Listen, I've been in business for 10 years, 20 years, 15 years. I'm not making as much money.'"
Levy said owners are feeling pressure on multiple fronts — including smaller profit margins, higher costs of goods and staffing issues.
But, he said, financial challenges are not the only reason some owners are putting their businesses on the market.
"There could be health (reasons). I've had businesses where there's marriages involved that are splitting up and they need to sell," Levy said. "A lot of businesses, certain industries, they give it down to the children (who) don't want that. Restaurants in general, that's usually a good example, (sometimes) the children don't want the business."

- Description
- The American push to quickly begin high-stakes talks with Iran hit a snag Friday, just days after the signing of an agreement that opens a two-month window for negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program and returning oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to prewar levels.
Iranian officials did not travel as planned to Switzerland, insisting that Israeli strikes on Iranian-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon must stop before the talks can take place, according to three regional officials and a person familiar with the matter. They were not authorized to publicly discuss the ongoing mediation to try to get the talks rescheduled and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The situation was fluid as Israel and Hezbollah agreed on Friday to renew their ceasefire, according to a U.S. official and regional officials. It remains to be seen whether that could help put the U.S.-Iran talks back on track.

- President Donald Trump is renewing his call for Senate Republicans to rewrite the rules as he pushes an increasingly difficult congressional agenda.
He demanded in a Thursday Truth Social post that Majority Leader John Thune scrap the filibuster, which blocks most bills that are short of 60 votes, in favor of a simple-majority system. Trump’s failing effort to pass a voter ID bill has become even more challenging in the past few days, as he urges it attached to a foreign surveillance law being negotiated by the Senate.
Trump has pressured Thune relentlessly to scrap the filibuster and pass the strict proof-of-citizenship legislation, called the SAVE America Act. Thune has told Trump publicly and privately that the votes are not there for either step. Still, Trump has kept up the push.
In a social media post Thursday, Trump said he would be “the last Republican president” if the voting bill does not pass.

The Protect College Sports Act passed out of the Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday, marking a significant step toward federal regulation of college athletics.
“I know that some say because college athletics is so popular, Congress should not get involved. But high television ratings and rabid fanbases do not prove the system is healthy; it just proves the product is worth saving,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, one of the co-authors of the bill.
Supporters of the legislation say it targets a range of concerns about the current college sports landscape, including limiting athlete transfers and college eligibility, capping name, image and likeness deal money, and stopping coach poaching by other schools during the season. The bill ...

Vance made the announcement at a White House press briefing, where he said more oil is now flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Republican vice president said more than 12.5 million barrels went through the shipping channel Wednesday night.
“So we’re also honoring our end of the early part of the agreement on the military side,” Vance said, citing it as an immediate benefit of the deal as he downplayed criticism that the agreement tilts in favor of Iran.
And in an extraordinary rebuke, he warned U.S. critics in Israel against “attacking the only powerful ally” it has left. He lashed out at members of the Israeli government, warning them that “Donald J. Trump is the only head of state in the entire world who is sympathetic to the nation of Israel at this mo...

If a jury accepts that defense, the panel would convict Mangione of manslaughter and he would face up to 25 years in prison. Alternatively, the jury could reject the extreme emotional disturbance defense and convict him of murder, which carries a potential life sentence. That defense isn’t available in his federal case.

In the lawsuit, the federal government asked a judge to order the end to any wrongdoing and to appoint a receiver to run the company.

- The parent company of Sam Adams said its Boston Taproom ran out of the brand's flagship Boston Lager over the weekend because Scotland soccer fans in Boston for the 2026 World Cup drank four times as much as the bar usually sells.
Boston Beer Co. said in a news release that from Thursday to Sunday, the Tartan Army -- Scotland's supporters organization -- drank four times what the company normally stocks during a typical four-day holiday stretch like the Fourth of July, adding that it had to schedule an emergency delivery of beer Saturday morning and are adding extra deliveries this week to make sure it has enough.
"We've never seen anything like it," Billy DeCain of the Sam Adams Boston Taproom told NBC Boston.
"The White Bull Tavern, there was no beer," Scottish fan Dave Orr told NBC. "The Scottish fans just drank the place dry and all they had was Bud Light."
"Pretty much everything. We ran out of everything," Paul Morris of The Whi...

- President Donald Trump is wrapping up his final day at the G7 summit in the French Alps on Wednesday after spending much of the gathering focused on a tentative agreement aimed at ending the conflict with Iran.
Trump held a news conference before departing for a visit and dinner at the Palace of Versailles in Paris. The president on social media called the G7 summit "a great success but, mostly what people wanted to talk about, is the fact that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon, and that the Strait of Hormuz will immediately be opened!"
"Great Numbers in all categories for the United States Economy with more people working today than have ever worked before," he added. "Over 19.1 Trillion being invested in the U.S.A. with Factories and everything else happening but, importantly, recent Stock Market numbers are through the roof because of the settlement and, likewise, Oil Prices are tumbling down!"
Trump on Tuesday teased that he would hold a new...

"While we are devastated by this unimaginable loss, Josh built an incredibly resilient organization and a deeply capable team. - The suspect in a fatal shooting Tuesday inside a Delaware hospital has been taken into custody in Philadelphia, officials said.
The 23-year-old man is expected to be charged in the shooting at Wilmington Hospital and extradited to Delaware, the city of Wilmington said in a statement.
Officials have declined to release information about the identities of the victims or the condition of a person who was shot and survived. The city said the shooting is believed to have been targeted and isolated.
ChristianaCare, which operates the hospital, said in an emailed statement it had diverted patients from its emergency department and was “taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors.”
A lockdown at the hospital had been lifted by Tuesday night.
At the news conference, Wilmington Mayor John Carney acknowledged the victims and hospital workers who hid as law enforcement went from room...

- President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was delaying the nomination of federal prosecutor Jay Clayton to lead the U.S. intelligence community in a bid to force Congress to act on a voter identification bill.
Just hours ahead of Clayton's confirmation hearing, Trump said he would keep Bill Pulte, a top U.S. housing official, as acting director of national intelligence, despite opposition from Democratic and Republican lawmakers who have cited his lack of intelligence experience.
Despite Trump's announcement, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said he planned to proceed with the confirmation hearing unless Trump directed Clayton not to appear or formally withdrew the nomination. Trump later instructed Clayton not to attend.
"It's regrettable that the president has directed Jay Clayton not to appear at his confirmation hearing today," Cotton said in a statement. "Mr. Clayton is a patriot and a highly qualified nominee, as ...

- Leaders at the Group of Seven summit on Wednesday threw their support behind U.S. President Donald Trump's tentative agreement with Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz and further extend a shaky ceasefire — even though neither the White House nor Iran has publicly released the text of the deal.
Closing the three-day summit, French President Emmanuel Macron called it a “very good deal,” adding that U.S. allies in the G7 support it “because it’s an agreement that puts a stop to a situation of great instability that had terrible consequences for our economies.”
According to leaked copies of an interim agreement, Iran will immediately take steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, through which a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas supplies once passed, once the deal is signed. Iran will also be allowed to sell its oil without restrictions. Officials say the leaked text broadly matches the document.

- Georgia Republicans delivered a split decision for Donald Trump in Tuesday runoffs, opting for the president’s preferred U.S. Senate candidate but rejecting his choice for governor in favor of a billionaire first-time candidate who spent freely from his personal fortune to win the nomination.
In the Senate race, Rep. Mike Collins, 58, topped former football coach Derek Dooley and advanced to face Sen. Jon Ossoff, the only Senate Democrat running for reelection in a state that Trump won two years ago. The outcome will help determine control of Capitol Hill for the final years of Trump’s second presidency.
For governor, healthcare tycoon Rick Jackson, 71, outpaced Lt. Gov. Burt Jones after spending about $100 million of his own money on the campaign. That investment ultimately outweighed Jones' backing from the president. Jackson will face Democratic nominee and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in November.

- Law enforcement officials disrupted a planned attack targeting President Donald Trump's UFC cage-fighting show at the White House this past weekend, according to court papers unsealed Tuesday that say plotters who harbored fringe conspiracy theories spoke of flying explosives-laden drones and shooting panicked crowd members as they fled.
Investigators recovered high-powered firearms from several of the suspects and reviewed encrypted text messages between roughly 20 participants who shared detailed maps and aerial photographs of the area and discussed the need for a “safe house” and escape routes after the intended attack, the documents show.
But it's unclear from the court records how close the would-be attackers could have come to being able to carry out the plan had it not been thwarted.

- California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday said that the Justice Department is investigating him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, under orders from President Donald Trump.
"After calling for my arrest last year, Donald Trump directed his Department of Justice to investigate me," he said in a video statement. "And just in the last week, I’ve learned his campaign has reached my own home: to get me, he’s coming after my wife, Jen."
The governor also claimed the investigation is intended to undermine any potential White House bid he may pursue in the future.
"Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean Tweets. He’s coming after me because I am considering running for President," he said. "Because he hates that I’ve consistently called him out – over and over again – for his lies and deceit. Donald Trump is simply the most corrupt President in American history."

- A new federal Trustees report is renewing concerns about Social Security’s long-term finances — but experts say some of the most alarming claims circulating online are misleading.
The report projects that the program’s retirement trust fund will be depleted in 2032, about a year earlier than previously estimated. After that point, Social Security would still collect payroll taxes from workers, but those incoming revenues would only be enough to cover roughly 75 to 80 percent of scheduled retirement benefits.
"The OASI Trust Fund is projected to become depleted in the fourth quarter of 2032, one quarter earlier than projected in last year’s report," the document states.
That means benefits would not stop entirely. Instead, if Congress does not act before the trust fund is exhausted, payments will be reduced for retirees, people with disabilities, and families receiving survivors’ benefits.

- Iran’s top diplomat said Tuesday that the tentative deal to end the war with the United States would require Israel to withdraw from Lebanon — a condition Israel has already rejected and that could sink the agreement, leading to the resumption of all-out war.
The deal, which is between the U.S. and Iran, has not been made public, and officials have sometimes offered contradictory interpretations of what is in it. While Israel is not party to the agreement, it is part of the war: It joined the U.S. in launching strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, and has since fought the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon and seized large swaths of that country.
A U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss outlines of the agreement, has said the deal did not call for an Israeli withdrawal. And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel would remain in Lebanon “as long as necessary.”
