If you don’t know me yet, I cover a range of topics at the York Daily Record. Some are quick reads; others are a bit more in-depth. And if you’ve followed my recent work, you’ll notice the longer ones typically involve food.
If you haven’t had the chance to read my food features, don't worry − I'll link a few of them at the end of the story.
For now, let me tell you about something I can talk about all night long: party planning.

The 8,100-pound, 40-foot-by40-foot tree is “one of the fattest ones we ever got,” said Dave Rudolph of the city electrical bureau, who has been moving trees to the square for the holiday season for 40 years.
This year’s tree was donated by Lori Floyd of Seven Valleys.

- As even his Democratic opponent predicted, Republican U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker easily coasted to a fifth term in Congress.
According to unofficial results, Smucker was leading Jim Atkinson, an airline pilot and political neophyte, by 21 percentage points with 80 percent of the vote counted, according to the Associated Press, which projected Smucker's victory.

Smucker faced cursory opposition from Atkinson, who ran for the seat just to make sure Smucker had an opponent. His campaign did not spent much money and he campaigned part-time while working full-time as a pilot. In an interview prior to the election, Atkinson conceded that he didn't have much of a chance to unseat Smucker.

It was homemade recording, the music was raw and heavy, but with melodic hooks, Beatle-esque, Brady thought. A musician himself – he played bass and sang with Pond, which went on to sign a recording deal with Sub Pop Records – Brady had never heard anything like it.
So, when the band was playing not far from his hometown of Portland on Jan. 18, 1991, he went. The show was in Olympia, Washington, about an hour away from Seattle, the cradle of the emerging grunge scene, in the library of Evergreen State College, an anti-Gulf War benefit concert billed as “no More Wars.” Tickets were four bucks.
