In the initial moments after proceedings were paused Monday afternoon, Zephyr defiantly hoisted a non-functioning microphone into the air as her supporters interrupted proceedings for nearly half an hour after Republicans denied her requests to speak on a proposal that would have restricted when children could change the names and pronouns they use in school and required their parents’ consent.

The home that Danford landed has a story that could inspire its own horror movie.

- Rob Stirling has been working out for more than 40 years, but only added push-ups to his exercise routine because injuries forced him to find a replacement for the bench press.
Now, no one in the world can do more push-ups than Stirling in 60 minutes.
On Feb. 24 at Tampa’s Powerhouse Gym Athletic Club, Stirling completed 3,264 push-ups in one hour, giving him the unofficial record until Guinness World Records certifies his attempt, which was filmed from multiple angles.
The previous record of 3,206, according to Guinness, was achieved by Australian Lucas Helmke on Nov. 17, 2022.
Stirling, an insurance agent who was born and raised in Tampa, said Helmke is half his age.
“It’s probably not going to sit really well with him that a 60-year-old has the record,” Stirling said. “So, I hope he does come back and he’s a competitor. And if he does break it, I’ll challenge him to a head-to-head competition.”

- Authorities in Florida were searching on Sunday for two missing boaters, who are believed drowned in a lake near the Legoland theme park.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the two men jumped into Lake Eloise on Saturday evening to save a third person from their group, a woman, who was struggling in the water after jumping in with the boat's anchor.
The men became separated from the boat and disappeared.
The woman was rescued by sheriff’s deputies after a girl on the boat dialed 911 on a cellphone.
The lake is beside Legoland in Winter Haven, but the incident was not connected with the theme park.

- Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has positioned himself as the architect of a new conservative vision for the nation during his annual State of the State address.
In Tuesday's address, DeSantis championed his aggressive stances through the pandemic and culture wars as a blueprint for Republican leadership.
It comes as DeSantis builds momentum for a presidential run and marks the start of Florida's annual 60-day legislative session.
He's traveled the country talking about how America should be more like Florida.
This session, that means issues like telling teachers what pronouns they can use for students, making guns more available to Floridians and keeping keeping immigrants who are in the country illegally out of the state.

- Four people were arrested after a physical altercation Monday at the University of South Florida during a protest against Gov. Ron DeSantis’ proposal to ban diversity programs at state universities.
Protesters say officers with the University Police Department used excessive force while the department said in a statement that students started the clash.
About 25 members of Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society, a campus activist group, were protesting the governor’s stances against diversity, equity and inclusion departments shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. The group marched from the Marshall Student Center to the Patel Center for Global Solutions, chanting that they demanded a meeting with USF President Rhea Law to ask what she was doing to protect marginalized students.

- Natalia Popova created a shelter for many animals rescued in the Ukrainian conflict which has engulfed the country.
Among the animals she is caring for are lions, tigers and a leopard.
Popova, who founded the wild animal shelter in 2018, stayed to help rescue animals in need after the full-scale invasion began in February last year.
She has saved 600 animals during that time, 200 of which had to be taken to other countries for treatment.
Popova says most of the animals had been abandoned without food or water.
One of the lions rescued now has shellshock and problems with coordination.
"Our military finds them and reports them to various animal protection organizations," she said

- A new crew arrived at the International Space Station on Friday for a six-month mission, after overcoming trouble with one of the capsule’s docking hooks.
The SpaceX capsule and its four astronauts had to wait 65 feet (20 meters) from the orbiting lab, as flight controllers in California scrambled to come up with a software fix.
It's the same problem that cropped up shortly after Thursday's liftoff. Although all 12 hooks on the capsule appeared to be fine, the switch for one of them malfunctioned.
SpaceX Mission Control urged patience, telling the U.S., Russian and Emerati astronauts they could stay in this holding pattern for up to two hours.
Once new software commands were relayed, the astronauts received the go-ahead to proceed. In the end, the linkup occurred an hour late as the capsule and space station soared 260 miles (420 kilometers) above the coast of Somalia.

- An 85-year-old woman was killed by an alligator while walking her dog in a senior living community on Florida's Atlantic Coast, officials said.
The woman was walking her dog on Monday afternoon beside a canal in Spanish Lakes Fairway near Fort Pierce when the nearly 11-foot (3.3-meters) gator attacked the dog, St. Lucie Sheriff Ken Mascara said.
A trapper from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission later tracked down the gator and deputies helped get it on a truck. It was taken from the scene.
“FWC is in charge of the investigation, however we assisted with a helicopter and manpower,” Mascara said.
The woman's name has not been released. Officials said the dog survived the attack, but its condition wasn't immediately known.

- A record 12 manatees were released into the wild in Florida’s Blue Springs State Park this month after being rescued and rehabilitated.
The mammals, also known as sea cows, congregate here on cold days due to the constant temperature of the springs.
Before release, the manatees are measured and tagged with a tracking device that will allow specialists to monitor their progress over the course of a year.
“Anytime a manatee is rescued, they’re taken into one of our rehab facilities. And the entire goal of the program is to rescue the manatee if it’s sick or injured, rehabilitate them, get them back to health, and then we’re going to release them back out into their natural environment,” explains Sara Wappes, from Florida Fish and Wildlife, Manatee Research and Rescue.
Most of the released manatees are orphans that were rescued between 2019 and 2021.

- A loggerhead sea turtle named Rocky was released into the Atlantic Ocean after spending six weeks rehabbing at Florida’s Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
Wednesday morning's event marked the first public sea turtle release from the Juno Beach center since 2021.
The 220-pound female turtle was found floating off North Hutchinson Island on Dec. 29. Officials say Rocky had a tear in the lung caused by a boat strike.
Turtle hospital staff released the turtle along the beach across the street from the center.
Juno Beach is north of West Palm Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
