- Description
- We’re waking up to some comfortable, cooler-than-average mornings through Wednesday. Afternoon highs will gradually warm each day, with Wednesday shaping up to be the warmest climbing into the upper 80s.
A strong cold front moves in early Thursday morning, bringing a round of showers and storms. We’re already tracking the potential for a few strong to severe storms, especially across parts of east Alabama.
Behind that front, temperatures cool back down, but the pattern stays active. Rain chances return Saturday and continue through Monday with scattered showers and storms.
And we’ll be watching Monday closely there’s another setup that could support strong to severe weather.

- Runtime

- Date posted
- Description
- Light rain will continue through the afternoon, mainly north of Columbus, with more moderate rainfall expected farther south. Rain will intensify across east Alabama and west-central Georgia through 8 a.m. Saturday before conditions begin to improve.
A pleasant late morning Saturday will lead into a sunny Sunday, along with cooler temperatures. This rainfall is especially welcome news for ongoing wildfires in southeast Georgia, as measurable rain should help slow their spread and allow fire crews to gain better control in some areas.
High temperatures will remain in the upper 60s on Saturday, with cooler morning lows in the mid to upper 40s Sunday into Monday. Warmer weather returns by midweek, with highs back in the 80s and the next chance for storms arriving around that time.

- Low Severe Risk: Showers, Isolated Storms, and Beneficial Rain Ahead-Bob Jeswald 11PM Weather Update
- Runtime
- 2:12
- Date posted
- Description
- Right now, there’s not much instability at the surface or support in the upper atmosphere, so the chances of strong to severe storms in east Alabama and western Georgia are low. We will see a few isolated thunderstorms along the line with gusts to 40mph.
We’ll keep watching things and update if anything changes. Of course, this has been beneficial for rain, and like everyone else, we’ll gladly take it.
The tornadoes and severe storms moving into Alabama overnight aren’t expected to ramp up much since there’s not a lot of energy to work with. So right now, I’m mainly expecting a round of showers with a few embedded storms overnight.
WEATHER AWARE(Marginal 1 out of 5): Late Wednesday, along the front and appears to more south of U.S. 80 Phenix City -Columbus line across east central Alabama and west central Georgia.

- Storms Ramp Up Tonight with Damaging Wind Risk, More Rounds Ahead Through Saturday-Bob Jeswald-4/28/
- Runtime
- 3:21
- Date posted
- Description
- A period of active weather is unfolding across East Alabama and West Central Georgia, with the greatest concern arriving this evening.
We are Weather Aware from 8 PM through Midnight, as showers and thunderstorms increase in both coverage and intensity. The highest risk is focused along the western edge of East Alabama, including Chambers, Lee, Macon, and Bullock counties. These areas are under a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather.
The primary threats tonight include isolated damaging wind gusts, pockets of large hail, and the possibility of a brief spin-up tornado. Storms are expected to organize into a line before gradually weakening later in the night.
Areas farther east across the rest of East Alabama fall under a marginal risk (1 out of 5), where the main impacts will likely be heavy rain and gusty winds. As the system continues moving east, storms will transition into periods of showers with embedded thunderstorms across West...

- Rain Chances This Week — Limited Impact, But Watching a Few Storm Risks-Bob Jeswald-4/27/2026
- Runtime
- 3:05
- Date posted
- Description
- We’re tracking three separate opportunities for rainfall in the First Alert Forecast this week, though none look especially strong at this time.
The first arrives early Tuesday morning, bringing a few light showers to start the day. Rainfall will be spotty and generally light as the system weakens quickly.
Another round moves in early Wednesday morning. While this system is also expected to weaken, there is a marginal (very low-end) risk for isolated damaging wind gusts, mainly across southeast Alabama. Most areas will simply see scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.
The third chance comes Saturday morning, tied to an area of low pressure developing over the northern Gulf. Right now, it looks like a glancing blow with early-day showers and storms. However, if that system tracks farther north, rain coverage could increase.
We’ll continue to monitor all three systems closely and update you as conditions evolve.
