- A dry stretch continues in the First Alert Forecast, but late-winter cold is still holding on. Expect a widespread frost early Wednesday morning, with chilly conditions to start the day.
By Thursday, we’ll see increasing clouds and slightly milder temperatures. Patchy frost is still possible, but not as widespread as earlier in the week. Afternoon highs will climb into the upper 60s.
A steady warm-up continues into Friday, with highs reaching the upper 70s. That also marks the official end of winter and the beginning of spring.
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures will surge into the lower 80s Saturday and mid-80s by Sunday, bringing a much more springlike feel.
Rain chances remain low, but a few isolated light showers could develop by Monday.

- A powerful winter storm system swept through the region Monday, bringing a dramatic change in weather conditions. As the system moved out on its back side, severe thunderstorms quickly gave way to a mix of sleet and rain north of Columbus.
At the same time, strong winds surged in behind the storm, sending temperatures tumbling from around 70 degrees into the upper 30s within a short period. With gusty winds continuing, wind chill values dipped below freezing in some areas, making it feel even colder.
The good news is that the unsettled weather is now moving out. The rest of the week is expected to remain storm-free, with temperatures gradually climbing.
Just in time for the official start of spring on Friday, warmer air returns to the region. By the weekend, highs will surge into the 80s with plenty of sunshine, bringing a big rebound after the early-week chill.

COLD WEATHER: On the back end of the front, cold air is on the way. A few snow flurries will be possible Monday, but no accumulation is expected.
By Tuesday morning, morning lows will drop below freezing. Those 20s will stay in the forecast through Wednesday. By the end of the week, temperatures will slowly warm back up. Highs will be near 70s again.

Timing: Storms are on track to enter east Alabama by 2 AM CT/3 AM ET. Columbus will likely see storms by 5 AM ET, and then the line will clear our Georgia counties by 9 AM ET.
Threats: Our main threat is going to be damaging winds anywhere along the line, up to 60 mph. However, we are not ruling out a brief tornado.

The storms were part of a fast-moving mesoscale convective system (MCS) — a large cluster of thunderstorms that can organize into a long line and produce widespread damaging winds across several counties or even multiple states. Unlike isolated thunderstorms, these organized systems can maintain their strength for hours and are capable of producing powerful straight-line winds, torrential rainfall, and frequent lightning.

- A storm complex moving through northwest Alabama tonight could bring active weather to parts of the Chattahoochee Valley late this evening into the early overnight hours.
The line of storms is expected to move into eastern Alabama, mainly impacting Chambers and Lee counties, before potentially spreading into west Georgia, including Troup, Harris, Muscogee, and Talbot counties. Some storms could hold together as they move through the area, bringing the threat of isolated damaging wind gusts, small hail, and localized street flooding. While the tornado threat appears low, it cannot be completely ruled out.
Right now, the greatest concern appears to be with the initial line of storms developing northwest of Interstate 85. However, forecasters will be watching closely as the system approaches.
