Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits. It gives MPs the chance to put questions to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer MP, or a nominated minister.
In most cases, the session starts with a routine 'open question' from an MP about the Prime Minister's engagements. MPs can then ask supplementary questions on any subject, often one of current political significance.
The Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch MP, asks six questions and the leader of the second largest opposition party asks two. If another minister takes the place of the Prime Minister, opposition parties will usually nominate a shadow minister to ask the questions.

- Collecting the right tax from wealthy individuals – Public Accounts Committee

- Description
- How can HMRC ensure wealthy individuals pay their taxes?
The population of wealthy individuals that HMRC administers has grown from 700,000 in 2019-20 to 850,000 in 2023-24. HMRC defines wealthy individuals as those earning more than £200,000 a year, or with assets over £2 million, in any of the last three years. The National Audit Office (NAO) found in May 2025 that additional revenue secured by HMRC from wealthy individuals has more than doubled – from £2.2bn (2019-20) to £5.2bn (2023-24).
The scale of this rise raises questions about whether non-compliance amongst wealthy individuals may not be far higher than HMRC has detected. Wealthy taxpayers have also faced fewer penalties in recent years – down to 456 penalties totalling £5.8m in 2023-24, from 2,153 totalling £16.2m in 2018-19.
The PAC will hear from senior officials at HMRC as part of its inquiry, including John-Paul Marks CB, HMRC’s Permanent Secretary, in his first...

- Westminster Hall debates are held in the Grand Committee Room, a specially converted space off Westminster Hall. All debates here are neutrally worded, general motions that begin “That the House has considered [a specific matter]”.
The principal Deputy Speaker, the Chairman of Ways and Means, has overall responsibility for the business at all sittings in Westminster Hall. Debates are chaired by an MP selected from the Panel of Chairs.
MPs cannot vote on, or propose an amendment to, motions in Westminster Hall. If the question is challenged the Chair reports to the House of Commons, and this could lead to a vote in the Commons Chamber.

- The Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a joint evidence session with the Ukrainian Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation to discuss how we strengthen the UK-Ukraine relationship and combat Russian information manipulation and interference campaigns, at approximately 10.30, on Tuesday 20 May.

The session will allow members of both Committees to explore the objectives behind these campaigns and examine how the tactics and techniques used in Russian disinformation campaigns have evolved.
Members may also consider how this differs across traditional and social media platforms and how these campaigns are targeted to different audiences. Questions could explore what lessons t...

What are petition debates?
Petition debates are ‘general’ debates which allow MPs from all parties to discuss the important issues raised by one or more petitions, and put their concerns to Government Ministers.
Petition debates don’t end with a vote to implement the request of a petition. This means that MPs will not vote on the issues raised in the petition at the end of the debate.
The Petitions Committee can only schedule debates on petitions to parliament started on petition.parliament.uk

- Description
- Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits.

- Description
- The Culture, Media and Sport Committee are examining what progress has been made to bolster the grassroots music sector in the UK, with Creative Industries Minister, Sir Chris Bryant, and industry and artist voices including Wolf Alice guitarist, Joff Oddie, on Tuesday 13 May.
Last year, the Grassroots Music Venue (GMV) sector had a combined value of £525 million, employed over 30,800 people and hosted 187,000 events with a combined total attendance of 26.6 million. Despite this, individual venues had an average profit margin of less than 0.5% and are closing at a rate of one every two weeks. The number of artists touring across the UK and abroad has also fallen by as much as 74% compared to pre-pandemic figures.
In 2024, the previous Committee published a report calling on the sector to agree a blanket, voluntary levy as quickly as possible, charging £1 on arena and stadium tickets, to support venues, emerging artists and independent promoters. This ha...
