Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits. It gives MPs the chance to put questions to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer MP, or a nominated minister.
In most cases, the session starts with a routine 'open question' from an MP about the Prime Minister's engagements. MPs can then ask supplementary questions on any subject, often one of current political significance.
The Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch MP, asks six questions and the leader of the second largest opposition party asks two. If another minister takes the place of the Prime Minister, opposition parties will usually nominate a shadow minister to ask the questions.

- Heathrow Airport power outage – Transport Committee
- Date posted
- Description
- Could Heathrow power cut have been dealt with differently?
The near-24 hour shut down of Heathrow Airport on 21 March forced around 1,400 flights to be cancelled or diverted and over 200,000 passengers to be displaced. The Transport Committee will now examine whether it could have all been dealt with differently, and what lessons can be learnt.
MPs will question CEO Thomas Woldbye on the operational factors and decisions that led to Europe’s biggest airport closing for as long as it did, and how the vital piece of infrastructure appeared to have a single point of failure.
There will be questions on whether alternative power sources could have been used earlier, after the National Grid suggested two other substations could have powered the entire airport. Instead, a number of diesel back-up generators fuelled only safety-critical functions. The National Grid will be represented at the session by Alice Delahunty, President of its UK elect...

- How is Government going to fix NHS dentistry?
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is examining the effectiveness of the Government’s plans to fix NHS dentistry.
The Committee will hear from senior officials at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England (NHSE), including DHSC’s interim permanent secretary Sir Chris Whitty, and NHSE’s Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard.

Other challenges for NHS dental delivery include the current dental contract acting as a disincentive to provide NHS care, falling numbers of dentists providing such care, and falling real-terms spend on NHS dentistry.

- 🔴 LIVE: Prime Minister's Questions with British Sign Language (BSL) - 12 February 2025
- Date posted
- Description
- Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits.

- Description
- Will airports expansion drive regional economic growth?
Whether expanding airports in the south east of England can benefit the rest of the UK economy will be the focus of a Transport Committee evidence session.
MPs will question Aviation Minister Mike Kane MP and a senior Department for Transport official, following a panel with economists and industry experts.
It comes after the Government recently announced support for a third runway at Heathrow and proposed expansions at Gatwick, Luton and other airports.
Witnesses may be asked to consider economic factors linked to airport expansion such as: the tourism industry, tax revenues generated, the UK’s large aircraft manufacturing sector, increased capacity for air freight, and catalytic effects on other businesses.
The New Economics Foundation, which is represented among witnesses in this session, has said it has been “some time” since the Government has as...
