Following The Wire’s report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognisance of the matter and sought responses from the Uttar Pradesh Police and prison authorities. The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police later claimed that the minor had told officers he was 19 years old at the time of his arrest. However, the minor, his family, and his lawyer dispute this claim. After his release, the minor spoke to The Wire’s Shruti Sharma for the first time about his arrest, his time in jail, and the police’s version of events.

.........................................
Andy Burnham’s emphatic victory in a bye-election in Makerfield has probably sealed Keir Starmer’s fate as prime minister of Great Britain. Initially Starmer refused to go. In fact he repeatedly said he would fight to keep the job. But now there’s speculation he could resign as early as later today. So this morning we ask what do the next few weeks hold for him? What sort of prime minister has he been? And what can we expect from Andy Burnham? My guest is a former Editor at Large at CNN Ashis Ray.

- These days, the hottest topic in AI is AI sovereignty. But when it comes to self-reliance in AI, we are just as far away as we are from fuel independence. The US just proved that it doesn't care about other countries — Anthropic's advanced AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, were suspended for India and other nations in the name of security. Companies working on these models had their work stopped overnight. India is Anthropic's second-largest market, and just days before the ban, TCS had finalized a deal to train 50,000 people on Claude's models. With almost 50% of Claude AI usage in India happening in coding, the US has effectively put a ban on India's productivity itself. Meanwhile, China refused to beg for chips, built its own semiconductor industry, and now tells the US, "We don't need your chips anymore." When will India see that day?
Now Tech billionaires are not only creating technology, they are also shaping policies. OpenAI spent a lot of money lobbying the US governmen...

The definition now includes a waist circumference of “about 80 cms for females and 90 centimetres for males, and this correlates with the amount of fat in your vital organs,” said Dr Aabha Nagral, who is, Director of Gastroenterology at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai and also runs their Fatty Liver programme, in a podcast discussion with Sidharth Bhatia.
She mentioned not just changing lifestyles, which have become sedentary, and diets, which are full of processed fats, but also genetic and other factors for this. “If you have obese parents, you'll have obese children very often. So that's the genes, but they eat the same food, they have similar physical habits as well.”
Her own specialty is fatty liver disease, which she said is growing in India. “Earlier, you would go for an ultrasound, you would ...

- Description
- Across India, a growing number of Christians are facing violence, arrests, and social exclusion—often under the shadow of anti-conversion laws. In states like Uttar Pradesh, these laws have led to hundreds of arrests, with many accused of “forced conversion” despite little or no credible evidence.
This documentary takes you inside that reality.
Through on-ground reporting in villages and cities across Uttar Pradesh, this film follows the lives of both women and men targeted for their faith. From disrupted prayer meetings and mob attacks to police cases and imprisonment, their stories reveal a troubling pattern where victims are often treated as the accused.
Women, in particular, face a harsher burden. Inside jails, they recount isolation, lack of medical care, forced labour, and separation from their children. Men, often arrested alongside them, endure violence, prolonged detention, and exhausting legal battles that stretch for months or eve...

Does the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and USA achieve the goals Trump set out on February the 28th? Or does Iran gain more than the United States? Whilst America has reopened the Strait of Hormuz has Iran obtained sanctions relief and the unfreezing of its assets? But could Netanyahu still scupper the deal if he continues to strike Lebanon? And now could the outcome in Iran define the rest of Trump’s presidency? Those are the issues I shall raise today, Thursday the 18th of June at 5.00 p.m. (7.30 a.m. in Washington DC and 12.30 p.m. in London), with the US National Editor and Chief Commentator of the Financial Times, Edward Luce.

- In the spring of 2026, a global movement of rights defenders, humanitarians, doctors, students, union workers, teachers, and seafarers set out for Gaza on land and sea to break the illegal blockade imposed by Israel. The Global Sumud Flotilla had the stated purpose of helping Palestinians assert their right to access their coast and the world beyond it. The mission was also going to deliver life-saving aid including food, material for shelter and other essentials like baby formula, medicine and school supplies. News of Israel’s capture of the sea vessels made headlines.
At the same time, there was a land convoy comprising dozens of trucks carrying aid and reconstruction material which aimed to travel through Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt and into Rafah. In the land convoy were doctors, engineers, teachers and a lone Indian climate activist Nikhita Naidu.
What happened to this land convoy, and what happened to activists like Nikhita who wer...
