The report warns that unless Congress takes action, it will only be able to pay 78% of the current level of benefits.
There have been concerns over the long-term solvency of Social Security before. But experts who study economic and retirement policy say the systemic threats to the program may be more severe in the near future than they have been in the past.

“Plastic foam is one of the most problematic single-use plastics. It breaks apart really easily. It's really lightweight, and so it travels far and wide, but in the air and in the water too,” said Christy Leavitt, a senior campaign director at Oceana.
When plastic foam breaks down into tiny pieces, animals like sea turtles and birds can end up eating it, causing significant health problems. And microplastic foam has been found in humans too.

The filing Saturday by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two Virginia residents contends the Trump administration's authorization of the June 14 event was unlawful. The lawsuit says such approval violated National Park Service regulations prohibiting sporting events on federal parklands, Congress did not consent to the towering arch overlooking the event space and no environmental review was conducted before the construction.

The Senate passed legislation to fund President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agencies early Friday morning, after weeks of delays and fierce backlash to an unrelated $1.776 billion settlement fund that threatened to derail the bill.
Senators voted 52-47 for the $70 billion legislation to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol for the next three years, through the end of Trump’s term. The final vote came just before 5 a.m., after Republicans narrowly defeated multiple attempts by Democrats and Republicans to add language to the bill that would permanently ban Trump’s settlement fund for political allies who believe they have been politically persecuted.

- It’s been nearly a thousand days since Hamas murdered more than 2,000 people on October 7th, including 46 Americans.
In the six months since his son Itay was returned home for burial, Ruby Chen has been working to heal. But he says there are too many unanswered questions about what happened that day.
Chen is in Washington this week asking members of Congress to open an inquiry into the massacre.
The Israeli government has not yet established its own State Commission of Inquiry, and many hostage families believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is delaying to avoid political accountability.
Chen says Congress should get involved because so many Americans were murdered that day. He points to investigations into to the deaths of Americans in Benghazi in 2012 and the Khobar Towers Bombing in Saudi Arabia in 1996.
