A series of fires were intentionally set within blocks of each other overnight in the San Fernando Valley, prompting an arson investigation. The first fire was reported around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday near the 405 Freeway in Van Nuys. Shortly afterward, another fire broke out at an apartment complex on Kester Avenue, where flames engulfed several vehicles and threatened nearby residences before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
Authorities responded to at least four separate fires in close proximity, including a trash compactor fire in Sherman Oaks that was later upgraded to a structure fire. Surveillance video captured a suspect igniting a fire behind a carport and fleeing the area.

A big rig driver was transported in critical condition after crashing through a wall on the eastbound 210 Freeway just before Baldwin Avenue in Arcadia around 2:40 a.m. on May 23, 2025. The truck plunged off the freeway and landed on surface streets near West Colorado Boulevard and Monte Vista Road.
First responders initially believed the driver had died after locating him trapped beneath a large pile of rubble approximately 50 feet away from the destroyed big rig. He was later found to be alive and was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. The truck was so heavily damaged that officers initially could not locate any occupants. No other vehicles were reported to be involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

This video shows a wrong-way driver caught on camera traveling against traffic on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in San Fernando. The footage was captured prior to the collision, followed by video of the crash aftermath moments later, before emergency responders arrived.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on the eastbound 118 near De Soto Avenue, where the wrong-way vehicle collided head-on with another car. Both vehicles were severely damaged and blocked three lanes, forcing traffic to stop as the Los Angeles Fire Department responded.
The wrong-way driver, identified only as a 30-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was also killed. A 25-year-old woman from Simi Valley was injured and transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.

According to preliminary information from LAPD, officers arrived to find the suspected burglar using a metal pole to break into another apartment unit and entering the residence. The man did not comply with officers’ commands, prompting them to deploy a taser, which was ineffective. The suspect continued to refuse compliance.
A shooting followed, and the suspected burglar was struck. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
No officers were injured. LAPD said one resident suffered a hand injury during an encounter with the suspect related to the burglary. The resident was treated and released at the scene.

Adrian Carrillo, 20-something, of Arleta, was behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang when he was struck and killed by a speeding driver. Loved ones say Carrillo had a promising future ahead of him.
The crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the 9300 block of North Woodman Avenue near Terra Bella Street. Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. A man trapped inside one of the vehicles had to be extricated by firefighters and was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

- Just before 1:00 AM, LAFD firefighters and paramedics, along with LAPD Rampart Division officers, responded to multiple reports of a vehicle that had gone over the edge and down an embankment near the water at MacArthur Park, where it erupted into flames.
When crews arrived, they found a white Mercedes SUV fully engulfed in fire beside the lake. A man—believed to be the driver—was discovered lying on the ground next to the burning vehicle.
Firefighters quickly worked to knock down the flames while paramedics assessed the injured man.
🚑 He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
LAPD is investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
