Landless People’s Movement (LPM) member, Ivan Skrywer, said the party is against the proposed amendments to the Regional Council Act, which places regional councils under the office of the governors.
Skrywer said the changes proposed by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, in the National Assembly earlier this month will undermine the autonomy of regional councils.
Skrywer made the remarks on Monday during a media conference under the theme “Ministerial Overreach in Local Government and Alleged Financial Mismanagement.”

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on government departments to ensure that resources are made available for liberation veteran care.
During a public service address on Friday, the President reminded civil servants that veterans are appealing to all Namibians, demanding justice for their sacrifices in the liberation struggle.
Since 2011, over 13,000 veterans each received a once-off N$170 000 payout totalling N$2.5 billion, but nearly 13,000 are still waiting for compensation.
