A victory would not only send the team to the next stage, but also secure the highest seed the program has ever earned at the state tournament.
“It’s been hard to describe,” the head coach Bruce Lear said. “I’ve told a few people throughout the year, at least I feel like I have an idea of what it’s like to be Fred Hoiberg.”
Lear said the team’s success comes from a collective effort, emphasizing the importance of every player on the roster.
“I have a lot of personal pride in helping all these girls understand that from player one to player 25, as a group you dictate the direction of this program,” Lear said.
Players say the season has been defined by chemistry and consistency.

- Nebraska softball’s historic regular season has been defined as much by its mindset as its results.
After securing the program’s first outright Big Ten regular-season title with a 23-1 B1G record, the Cornhuskers are carrying a steady, businesslike approach into the postseason, according to head coach Rhonda Revelle.
“It feels good,” Revelle said of the championship. “But we’ve just had this business about us all year. We’re just trying to win pitches and win another game.”
That approach has fueled one of the most consistent stretches in program history. No. 2 Nebraska (43-6) has surged through the second half of the season with an 18-game winning streak and a dominant run through conference play, building confidence without losing focus.
Even in the moment of clinching the title, Revelle said the team’s reaction reflected its personality.

While acknowledging the accomplishment, she said the focus has remained on “winning pitches” and staying present, which led to consistent success.
Revelle noted the team didn’t have an over-the-top celebration, instead showing a steady confidence built over the course of the season. She also shared a lighthearted moment about getting doused twice by players — once on the field and again after a postgame shower.
Looking ahead to the Big Ten Tournament, Revelle said preparation is more generalized until the opponent is set, with the team working through multiple offensive game plans and focusing on fundamentals defensively. The Cornhuskers were swept by the Buckeyes, capped by a 10-1 loss Sunday. Nebraska managed just five total runs across the three-game series while allowing 19.
The skid contributed to a drop in the latest D1Baseball rankings, with Nebraska falling from the mid-teens to No. 25.
Despite the setback, the Huskers are 34-14 overall and remain in contention in the Big Ten race. Nebraska is tied with Oregon at 17-7 in conference play, though the Ducks hold the tiebreaker after winning two of three games in Eugene earlier this season. As a result, the Cornhuskers sit in third place in the standings.
UCLA, unbeaten in conference play at 24-0, has clinched the Big Ten regular-season title.

The Huskers will face Northern Colorado in Chadron, continuing a long-standing tradition of bringing the program to communities across Nebraska.
Previous stops have included Grand Island, Kearney, Ord and McCook. But these matches go beyond competition — they’re about connection.
“I think Chadron is more of a celebration of the state and taking our team all the way out west to enjoy the people out there,” head coach Dani Busboom Kelly said. “Northern Colorado will be a totally different type of team than what we’ve played, so how do we adjust? I want to see us get a little bit better.”
For the players, the experience is just as meaningful.

- Description
- Nebraska baseball is making a key adjustment on the mound as it looks to finish the season strong.
After earning the role as the Huskers’ Friday night starter earlier this season, Ty Horn has been moved to the bullpen in a surprising shift. The change came during Nebraska’s midweek win over Creighton.
Head coach Will Bolt said the move was driven by a need for flexibility and additional arms capable of contributing multiple times during the week.
“I just think he’s eager to take the ball multiple times a week, and we were looking for another arm that’s going to be able to do that,” Bolt said.
The decision follows a pair of one-run losses to Oregon last week and paid immediate dividends in the Huskers’ one-run win over Creighton.
Horn delivered an efficient outing in relief, throwing just 33 pitches over three innings while consistently attacking the strike zone.
“I thought he commanded all his...

- The sounds of baseball filled Charles Schwab Field: bats cracking, coaches shouting, and kids sprinting down the baseline.
“Run, run, run!” echoed across the field.
But for the hundreds of kids participating in the 27th annual Bill Steckis Free Baseball Clinic, it was about more than just the game.
“It’s really fun, and you get to practice playing baseball,” one participant said.
Held at the home of the College World Series and Creighton baseball, the clinic gives boys and girls ages 7 to 15 a chance to learn from the next level. Kids rotate through drills focused on fielding, hitting and base running, all led by former professional players, local coaches and members of the Creighton Bluejays.
For Steckis, the event is about continuing a tradition that spans nearly three decades.
“There’s guys going through this who went through it years ago who are now taking their kids,” Steckis said. “And...
