- It’s crunch time for the Omaha Supernovas.
With only two playoff spots still up for grabs, the team is heading into a critical road stretch that could determine its postseason fate.
Now in its third season, the Supernovas have made the playoffs in each of their first two years, including a championship run in their inaugural season. To keep that streak alive, they’ll need results on the road with upcoming matches against Orlando and Atlanta.
The players understand the urgency.
“It’s going to be a tight battle for who’s going to make the postseason, so we bring that urgency every single day and just compete and have fun,” Setter Sydney Hilley said.
That mindset has become a focus as the team prepares for high-stakes competition down the stretch.
“We’re really focused on high-level competition and just a lot of fun energy,” libero Allison Holder said. “Being present with each other and in th...

- Hastings High School’s baseball team has built its identity on toughness this season, staying competitive in nearly every game with a mix of close losses and key wins.
Leading the Tigers is senior Zane Thomsen, a do-it-all presence who contributes on the mound, at the plate and in the dugout.
“I think we’ve kind of started off a little slow this year, but we had a really good game on Tuesday,” Thomsen said. “I think we’re all just looking to keep it going forward throughout the rest of the season.”
Thomsen's leadership extends beyond baseball. The senior recently earned a college wrestling scholarship to Chadron State, capping a successful high school career that included four state tournament appearances and back-to-back fifth-place finishes.
“It’s been something I’ve kind of dreamed of since I was a little kid,” Thomsen said. “So I’m really excited.”

Among the key provisions, the order would establish a five-year eligibility window for athletes, limit players to one transfer during that period and place restrictions on how much student-athletes can be paid. It also calls for schools to prioritize women’s and Olympic sports regardless of revenue generation.
The executive order is expected to take effect in August, though specifics are still being clarified.

- Description
- Nebraska’s postseason run came to an end in Houston, but the Huskers’ season will be remembered as one of the most successful in the program’s 130-year history.
A key figure behind that success is assistant coach Nate Loenser, whose work behind the scenes has played a major role in Nebraska’s rise, even if he rarely receives public attention.
Loenser, a longtime assistant under head coach Fred Hoiberg, takes a teaching-first approach to coaching, emphasizing personal development alongside performance on the court.
“I like to think of myself more as a teacher than a coach,” Loenser said. “My mom was a teacher, and that’s why I got into this profession — my passion for sports and impacting people. At the end of the day, my job is to help these players be the best version of themselves.”
Born with one arm, Loenser never allowed it to limit his athletic career. He played four sports in high school, including basketball...

- Nebraska held its annual spring football game Saturday, nearly a month earlier than usual, giving coaches an extended opportunity to evaluate the roster heading into the summer.
Coach Matt Rhule said he was pleased with what he saw from his team as spring practices came to a close.
“I liked what I saw,” Rhule said. “We’ve got a lot to build on heading into the summer.”
One of the top performers was early enrollee freshman running back Jamal Rule, who delivered the highlight of the day with a 75-yard touchdown run. The North Carolina native finished with 121 rushing yards, averaging 13.2 yards per carry as he made an early impression in a crowded running back room.
Rule said enrolling early helped prepare him for moments like Saturday.
“I wanted to come in and compete right away,” Rule said. “I’m just trying to prove I can help this team this fall.”
As a team, Nebraska rushed for 374 yards,...

- Nebraska’s season did not end the way it hoped, falling short in the Sweet 16 at the Toyota Center in Houston. But the final result did little to diminish what became the most successful campaign in program history.
Picked to finish 14th in the Big Ten preseason poll, the Cornhuskers instead surged to a second-place finish, rewriting expectations along the way.
The season’s turning point came early during a historic 20-0 start, a run unlike anything Nebraska had experienced. A 58-56 home win over then-No. 9 Michigan State marked a defining moment, as fans stormed the court and the team signaled it belonged among the nation’s elite.
Rather than treating the victory as a surprise, players embraced it as validation.
From there, Nebraska proved its rise was no fluke.
The Huskers set a program record with 28 wins, including a school-best 15 conference victories. They also earned the program’s first NCAA Tournament win ...

- Nebraska football players took part in the program’s NFL Pro Day on Tuesday inside the Hawks Championship Center, showcasing their skills in front of scouts from multiple NFL teams ahead of April’s draft.
The event featured seniors participating in traditional drills with the goal of improving their draft stock or earning opportunities at the next level.
“You grow up every Sunday just dying to watch the NFL, dreaming about playing in it,” Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson said. “So to be in a position to do this, to be at Pro Day, it’s a blessing.”
Johnson, an All-American, improved on his NFL Combine performance. After running a 4.56-second 40-yard dash at the combine, one scout clocked him at 4.53 seconds in both attempts Tuesday, a slight boost that could help his evaluation.
“I felt like it was a great performance, but I’ve got a lot more football to be played,” Johnson said.

- Nebraska left on Tuesday for Houston for its first-ever Sweet 16 appearance, where it will face a familiar rival in Iowa with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
The Huskers and Hawkeyes split their regular-season meetings, setting up a rubber match on a neutral floor in the NCAA Tournament.
For Nebraska, the key to advancing is clear: control the glass.
“You know what they did on the glass was just absolutely incredible,” coach Fred Hoiberg said, referencing Iowa’s performance against top-seeded Florida. “They’re playing the best basketball they have all year, and we’re going to have to play our best game of the season.”
Iowa, despite being one of the poorest rebounding teams in Division I during the regular season, matched Florida with 27 rebounds in its upset win and edged the Gators 10-9 on the offensive boards. Florida entered the game leading the nation with 46 rebounds per game.

- Dundy County-Stratton made history, capturing the program’s first girls basketball state championship with a 49-39 win over Wynot in the Class D-2 title game at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The top-seeded Tigers finished the season 28-1, adding another milestone to what has become a successful stretch for Dundy County-Stratton girls athletics.
“I couldn’t be prouder,” coach Matt Schaub said. “What a smart, super athletic group. I’m really fortunate to get the chance to coach them.”
The Tigers used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from sixth-seeded Wynot and secure the title.
Dundy County-Stratton’s success comes from a tight-knit roster at the small southwest Nebraska school.
“We’re always together, being from such a small school,” Abi Spargo said. “You know everyone, you’re around them all the time, and I think that helps us a lot having such a good connection with everyone. It’s fun to see so muc...

- Nebraska will send a full lineup to the NCAA Wrestling Championships this week, with all 10 weight classes represented as the Huskers head to Cleveland for the national tournament.
Coach Mark Manning said Nebraska’s goal is not simply qualifying wrestlers but competing for a team title.
“Our strength is in our team concept,” Manning said. “I think our guys all feed off each other. I think we have a really good advantage that way and now we just have to go out and let it go. Just go get it.”
Six Nebraska wrestlers earned top-10 seeds when the NCAA released the tournament brackets.
Leading the group is 157-pounder Antrell Taylor, the No. 2 seed and the defending NCAA champion at the weight. The Omaha native enters the tournament 22-3 after finishing runner-up at the Big Ten Championships and is making his third NCAA appearance.
Nebraska also has two No. 3 seeds in Brock Hardy at 141 pounds and Christopher Minto at...
