- Press Release Courtesy of NCAA- The Division I Cabinet on Tuesday unanimously approved a sweeping overhaul of eligibility rules for student-athletes, permitting Division I student-athletes up to five years of eligibility if they enroll in college no later than the academic year after their 19th birthday. The new rule streamlines a significant portion of the Division I rule book by eliminating season-of-competition limits, sport-specific eligibility and redshirt rules, and eligibility extension waivers.
The changes are not final until the Cabinet meeting concludes Wednesday.
"With these changes, the Cabinet has taken decisive action for the benefit of student-athletes and the system of NCAA Division I athletics," said Josh Whitman, athletics director at Illinois and chair of the Cabinet. "For many student-athletes who enroll in college immediately after high school, these changes will result in the opportunity to potentially compete for an additional season in...

The journey to Omaha, however, was anything but easy.
LeChance grew up in Montreal, where French is the primary language for much of the population. When he arrived in Oklahoma to pursue college baseball, he found himself more than 2,000 miles from home while trying to navigate classes and daily life in a language he was still learning.
"There were definitely some difficult moments," LeChance said. "But I did everything I was able to do to bring me to this moment right here."

For Georgia baseball, that tradition comes in the form of a sour candy.
The Bulldogs have embraced a dugout ritual known as "Sour Power," a team tradition that began during a road trip to Mississippi State and has followed them all the way to the Men's College World Series.
The idea started with Georgia player Bryce Callaway during a stop at Buc-ee's while traveling to Starkville earlier this season.
Callaway bought a bag of Sour Power candy, and teammates began handing it out after hits, runs and other positive moments during games.
The Bulldogs proceeded to sweep Mississippi State on the road.
The tradition stuck.

- Nebraska baseball continues to reshape its roster following a 43-17 season that included the program's first NCAA Regional hosting appearance since 2008.
The Huskers added another transfer portal commitment this week with South Carolina first baseman and outfielder Caleb Hoover announcing he will transfer to Nebraska.
Hoover appeared in eight games and made two starts during his lone season with the Gamecocks. Before arriving at South Carolina, he starred at Grayson College in Texas, where he hit .340 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs.
The Hoover name may already sound familiar to college sports fans. Caleb is the younger brother of Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover, who transferred to the Hoosiers after spending four seasons at TCU and is considered one of the nation's top returning quarterbacks.
Hoover becomes the second reported transfer portal addition for Nebraska this offseason. Former Iowa right-handed pitcher Cole Moore also announc...

- LINCOLN, Neb. — As summer break begins, many families are seeing kids spend more time on phones, tablets and other devices — a shift that experts say can carry both risks and benefits depending on how screens are used.
A Lingokids survey found 68% of kids increase screen time significantly during the summer months. Linda Reddish with the University of Nebraska Early Childhood Center said the seasonal increase is known as the “summer dip.”
“The risk is the amount of tie that’s ticking up that children are onscreen; the average time now is 2.5 hours a day on screen use,” Reddish said. “Which means they are not engaged in learning activities or other kinds of things that are appropriate for their age. At the same time, there’s a risk of inappropriate things online. The benefit is, it can be something you and your child do together to learn how to navigate this new space.”

- Few golfers have left a mark on Kearney Catholic athletics quite like Nash Malone.
The senior capped his high school career this spring by winning his second consecutive NSAA boys golf state championship, becoming only the second golfer in school history to claim multiple individual state titles. Malone joins Phil Horanek as the only Stars golfers to accomplish the feat.
"It means a lot to win again for the second year in a row," Malone said. "But I'm just happy I got to do it with the guys I got to do it with this year."
While Malone's talent made him one of the state's top golfers, Kearney Catholic coach Dustin Bredthauer said his leadership and coachability were equally important to the program's success.
"He was committed from the jump," Bredthauer said. "His best quality is how coachable he is. You wouldn't always expect that from a player with his talent level."
After winning the state title in 2025, Malone entered ...

- Nebraska men’s basketball guard Braden Frager is coming off a breakout redshirt freshman season, and head coach Fred Hoiberg believes the Lincoln native still has another level to reach.
Frager averaged nearly 12 points per game while shooting 35% from 3-point range during a season that earned him Big Ten 6 Man of the Year honors. Now, Nebraska’s coaching staff is focused on helping the 6-foot-6 guard become a more complete player.
“I think the biggest growth for Braden is just going to be playmaking, defensively taking a step,” Hoiberg said. “I thought he made huge strides from his redshirt year to his first year of eligibility on the court, but there’s more room to grow with his physical tools and his body. He should be able to be a lockdown defender.”
Frager elevated his play during Nebraska’s NCAA Tournament run, scoring 13 points against Troy, 15 against Vanderbilt and 16 against Iowa.

- Nebraska baseball's 2026 season ended sooner than the Huskers hoped, but not before a senior-led group helped restore the program to heights not seen in nearly two decades.
Nebraska finished with 44 victories, its most wins since 2005, and hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time in 18 years. The Huskers' season began in Arizona in February and ended in May against Arizona State, but along the way Nebraska re-established itself as one of the nation's top programs.
The Huskers posted a .958 winning percentage at home, setting a new school record at Haymarket Park while losing only three games on their home field. Nebraska also hosted the program's 20th NCAA Regional and seventh regional overall.
"This team has set the standard," senior Dylan Carey said. "The standard is to host and be an Omaha team."
Nebraska's offense powered much of its success. The Huskers run-ruled opponents eight times and scored 10 or more runs in 18 games duri...

Players are scheduled to arrive in Lincoln over the coming days before medical evaluations begin June 8. Nebraska's first official summer workout is set for June 11.
