- Description
- As Las Vegas leaders look for ways to reverse a tourism slump, affordability has become a central concern for both visitors and locals who say the cost of staying on the Strip has gotten too high.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is trying to draw more travelers with its five-day sale this week, offering hotel discounts and other deals aimed at making a trip to Las Vegas more affordable. The push comes amid ongoing debate over whether high hotel room prices and resort fees are discouraging visitors — and what it will take to get tourists not only to return, but to keep coming back.
The limited-time sale is not a long-term fix, and the broader conversation continues to focus on making the Strip more affordable over time. Ideas that have been raised include making parking free and lowering hotel room costs and resort fees.
LVCVA data from July shows the average daily room rate on the Las Vegas Strip is more than $167, an increase of $30 ...

- Description
- A major ownership change is coming to one of the Las Vegas Strip’s biggest names, as Caesars shareholders have approved a $17 billion buyout from Fertitta Entertainment.
The approval marks what was described as the beginning of a new era for Caesars, a company that has been a central part of the Strip through decades of change.
Beyond the corporate deal, questions about the Strip’s affordability continue to follow the region’s two main economic drivers: tourism and entertainment.
One of the most common questions being raised is whether the Las Vegas Strip is affordable — and whether the answer affects how much fun visitors have.
Dr. Bo Bernhard, a UNLV professor and researcher who studies what drives Las Vegas, is addressing those questions about affordability and the visitor experience.

- Las Vegas needs to give visitors more certainty about vacation costs as it works to win back budget-conscious travelers, according to UNLV economist Andrew Woods.
His assessment comes as the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority brings back its five-day sale. The promotion began Tuesday and runs through Sept. 26, with more than 180 offers, including hotel discounts of up to 60%.
Woods, director of UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research, said the city needs to reach travelers who have been choosing other destinations.
