- Data from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police shows several crime categories declining this year in the Las Vegas Valley’s northeast and southeast area commands, even as the two patrol zones continue to report some of the highest crime totals in the department’s jurisdiction.
The northeast and southeast commands, divided by Charleston Boulevard, cover several populated neighborhoods in the east valley, including Sunrise Manor. Metro statistics through May 17 show the areas continue to rank among the highest for vehicle thefts, robberies, and domestic violence cases this year.

- A Henderson, Nevada, store owner is asking for the public’s help identifying a woman she says was caught on surveillance video shoplifting about $1,000 worth of merchandise — allegedly using a purse to take items in plain sight.
Tammy Wood, the owner of Vegas Crystal Healings and More, said the theft happened despite more than 15 cameras placed throughout the store. Wood said she became suspicious soon after the woman came in.
“I recognized her; she looked familiar, and because she specifically said the type of bath salts, I knew that she had been here before,” Wood said.
Wood said she was at the register when the woman began taking items from nearby shelves.

- Just one week after celebrating a win at Dover, the NASCAR world is now mourning the loss of two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch.
Busch died Wednesday at the age of 41, sending shockwaves through the racing community and prompting an outpouring of emotion from drivers across the sport.
Among them was Noah Gragson, who both competed against Busch and drove for Kyle Busch Motorsports early in his career.

- Neighbors in a Las Vegas community said reckless driving has returned to the intersection of Lamb and Hacienda, more than a year after Clark County took steps meant to deter donuts and speeding.
“I'm livid, I’m absolutely livid,” Steven Vaden, who lives in the Grapevine Springs community near the intersection said.
Clark County crews came in December 2024 and milled part of the asphalt, a process that removes parts of the street to rough up the road surface, and installed speed humps after years of complaints made by neighbors and News 3 reporting. Vaden said the work helped but the problem returned toward the end of November 2025.

- A couple who run a barbershop off Sahara Avenue say they are being forced to choose between working in dangerous conditions or losing money because water damage at their Clark County-owned building has not been repaired.
J.J. Jones and his wife, Traci Simon, own Get A Haircut in New Orleans Square. They say a hole in the roof two stories above their unit has been covered by a tarp, but the damage has led to leaking, damaged ceilings and flooding. Part of the tarp is now hanging over the property after harsh winds.
“When you love what you do, you want to be able to do it. And, right now, I am in a position I cannot,” Jones said.

“I think it's very concerning that the city council can still overrule the planning commission, and they seem quite intent on pursuing this even though the public is very, very much against it," Boulder City resident Fred Voltz said.
Despite opposition, Boulder City Council members have voted in recent months to move forward with the data center project, citing economic benefit and growth for the area.

- North Las Vegas police have released new body camera video showing what happened during a police shooting near Legacy High School last week.
On May 14 at 10:40 a.m., police officers responded to a Target store on North 5th Street regarding a suspicious man, later identified as 21-year-old Jallel Jenkins-Harris, stealing merchandise inside a backpack.
When officers arrived to detain Jenkins-Harris for the theft, he allegedly fled toward the rear of the business. During the pursuit, police say employees and customers warned officers that Jenkins-Harris was armed with a handgun.

- It was a bittersweet morning on Thursday in Goodsprings, Nevada.
The state's oldest operating school, Goodprings Elementary, shut its doors for the final time.
Clark County School District leaders recommended closing the campus, citing enrollment and costs to maintain Goodsprings Elementary School.
On April 23rd, the CCSD Board of Trustees voted to permanently shut down.
"Its impact will continue in every student who carries their experiences from here into the future," said principal Tammy Flanagan during a ceremony with CCSD leaders, community members, and the last occupants of the school on Thursday.

The Biden-era EPA rules required grocery stores, air conditioners and refrigeration systems to transition more quickly to climate-friendly refrigerants. Trump plans to extend deadlines for grocery stores and other companies to phase out climate-damaging hydrofluorocarbons.
Hydrofluorocarbons, commonly known as HFCs, are considered powerful “super pollutants” because they trap significantly more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Congress approved a bipartisan phasedown of the chemicals in 2020 under legislation signed by Trump during his first term.

Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella said on the EDC website that expanding the festival is something the company has dreamed about for years.
In a statement posted on the site, Rotella said that expanding the event to 12 days will reduce congestion inside and outside the festival and bring ticket prices down “to where they were a decade ago.”

Alejandro Estrada was arrested for killing wife and husband Amanda and Victor Frias Rosas at the Smith's on Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard last Tuesday, May 12.
A separate case was filed later in the week against Estrada, accusing him of home invasion, burglary and discharging a gun into a structure. The two cases have since been consolidated.
