- President Donald Trump convened his Cabinet at the White House on Wednesday as his administration continued high-stakes talks with Iran aimed at ending the nearly three-month-old conflict that has rattled global markets and raised fears about energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
At the start of the meeting, Trump asserted that Iran is “negotiating on fumes” and dismissed the notion that November’s midterm elections would pressure him into a quick agreement.
“They thought they were gonna outwait me. You know, ‘We’ll outwait him. He’s got the midterms,’” Trump said. “I don’t care about the midterms.”
Trump nevertheless projected confidence that a deal is close. Over the weekend, he claimed on Truth Social that the United States and Iran had “largely negotiated” a settlement, though talks remain fluid and several major issues are unresolved.

Starting at 11 a.m., the coalition held their memorial day service to honor those who served.
Guest speakers included Senator Jacky Rosen.
Along with the service, nearly 9,000 American flags were placed throughout the cemetery to recognize the men and women who are buried there.

- Six months after a deadly shooting the near the UNR campus, the victim's family says the answers they're getting don't add up. They're pushing for change after learning Wyatt North was shot six times in a case that's been labeled an act of self-defense.
Dalton North is mourning the loss of his younger brother Wyatt.
"It's been hard," he said. "Frustrating. Very frustrating."
The tattoo on his forearm serves as his own personal tribute to the brother he lost.
"His favorite animal was a polar bear and he loved the mountains," Dalton told us.
Wyatt was shot and killed in October.
It's a case that still doesn't make sense to Dalton or his family, six months later.
The family says Reno Police and the Washoe County District Attorney's office have confirmed to them that Wyatt was not armed and that he was shot six times by someone who claims to have acted in self-defense.

Two people were shot, including a possible suspect, in an encounter with the Secret Service near the White House, according to a law enforcement official. The incident occurred near Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street Northwest.
A gunman approached a gate on the west side of the White House around 6 p.m. brandishing a pistol and fired three times toward the building, prompting Secret Service to return fire. The gunman was reportedly shot by Secret Service after firing toward the White House, when a bystander was also struck during the exchange of gunfire. The alleged shooter did not get insider the perimeter of the White House.
It was not immediately clear who fired the shots that struck the bystander.
The alleged shooter died after being transported to a nearby hospital, according to the Secret Service.

- A Sparks teenager is making waves in the music world, not just for his talent, but for where that talent is already taking him.
At just 14 years old, Alex Loosley is studying music at the University of Nevada, Reno, composing original work and collaborating with professional musicians.
Earlier this month, that work took center stage.
At UNR’s Harp Fest, the Toiyabe Trio premiered “Tahoe Shimmers,” a piece written by Loosley for harp, oboe and viola, a rare combination of instruments, and an even rarer opportunity for someone his age.
“It’s lovely to listen to,” said Dr. Aaron Hill, the oboist performing the piece. “You can just sit back and enjoy it.”
Hill says it’s easy to forget Loosley is still in middle school.
“And I forget for large swaths at a time that this guy is 14 and he’s an absolute pro,” he said.
Loosley’s journey into music began nearly a decade ago.

- The 2-year-old female bear discovered in west Reno on Thursday was safely released back into the wild in the hills above Washoe Valley on Friday morning, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
The bear had climbed into a tree near a trailer park on May 21, where NDOW biologists and game wardens monitored the situation and worked to safely guide it down. After several hours the animal came down from the tree on its own and entered a culvert trap without incident.
Officials say NDOW biologists and game wardens assisted with the release using Karelian Bear Dogs, a non-lethal wildlife management tool used to help reinforce a bear’s natural fear of people and urban areas.
The bear was not injured during the incident and no people were hurt.
NDOW continues to remind residents to help prevent bears from becoming food-conditioned by securing attractants such as trash, bird seed and pet food.
