Joe Sutton, an American Cancer Society volunteer and cancer survivor, was recognized for the time he spends driving patients to and from treatments through the organization’s Road to Recovery program. “I just felt like I needed to pay it back I know what a struggle it can be and I want to see them do well and get well,” Sutton said.
The Road to Recovery program provides free rides for patients who might otherwise miss critical appointments, a barrier organizers say is among the biggest obstacles to cancer care. In Nevada, hundreds of rides have already been provided this year, but the need continues to grow, especially in Washoe County where volunteer drivers are limited.
To support the effort, community partners United Nissan Reno and IBEW Local 401 donated a combined $5,000.

Parrish spent two weeks in jail and lost his job after he was accused by Carson City's Department of Alternative Sentencing of violating his parole. But he insists there was no violation and claims Alternative Sentencing violated his rights by having him locked up.
Parrish admitted he made a mistake by getting arrested on a drug charge in 2024. But he said, he was putting his life back together, working at Panasonic and submitting clean urine samples for months. He even showed us the records of his drug tests as proof.
He was on the right track he said under the supervision of Carson City's Department of Alternative Sentencing, when a patch he wore on his arm to test for drugs came back positive.
He said the patch caused a rash and never fit right, especially as he worked up a sweat on the job.

The planned ballroom would be a roughly 90,000-square-foot addition replacing part of the East Wing and designed to hold about 1,000 guests, far larger than the current East Room, which hosts many major White House events. President Trump has repeatedly argued that the ballroom is needed both for entertaining and for security.

- Department of Motor Vehicle offices around the state have looked a little different recently.
There is still a steady stream of document clutching drivers with in-person appointments, but not as packed and not as many long lines after an overhaul aimed at moving most services online and away from DMV visits.
Several different online programs have launched since 2025 with the goal of making DMV business easier for everyone, but technology anxiety is real.
DMV public information officer Paolo David says it's a transition that needed to happen as our population increases.
"By having online services, we can actually reach more customers, reach more citizens even in rural places." says David.
In late October, the DMV made the big switch as part of their modernization plan.
All new registrations, registration renewals, titling and moving permits had to be initiated online by drivers through two platforms, MyDmv or DriveNv...

The protest is being put on by groups Pushin' Pays Project, Still Human, Life Changes and Christian Walker Re-entry & Justice Foundation.
Christian Walker died on April 15, 2023, while in custody at the High Desert State Prison in Nevada. According to the family's website, the "foundation exists to carry forward Christian’s legacy by protecting the dignity, safety, and humanity of people in custody and their families."
The protest began at 11 a.m. at the Nevada State Legislature building in Carson City.
The groups are calling for an end to alleged abuse and and what they call inhumane conditions in Nevada prisons.

- After weeks of earthquakes and aftershocks, residents in Silver Springs say the ground just won’t stop moving.
The shaking began after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck on April 13, triggering a swarm of aftershocks across parts of northern Nevada. Many of those quakes have been strong enough to rattle homes, shake shelves, and keep residents on edge.
“It’s scary, you know?” Patricia from Silver Springs said.
People in the area say they’re now taking extra precautions inside their homes—clearing off high surfaces, securing breakable items, and locking cabinets to prevent damage during sudden shaking.
“We’ve actually cleared off the refrigerator, our bookshelves, anything breakable,” Patricia said. “We made sure our cupboards are locked.”

- Crews responded to a fire that was caused by a lightning strike hitting a gas line on Monday evening.
The fire occurred on Rimfire Circle around 6:30 p.m. on May 4.
Authorities say the fire was contained to juniper plants and no buildings were damaged. NV Energy secured the gas line.
No injuries were reported.
Local fire departments are warning people about fire safety ahead of warmer temperatures this week.
