Some of our MPR News Art Hounds will share their insights, and detail how we can ensure art, theater and music are serving diverse communities in Minnesota.
Plus, the APM Research Lab will share how Minnesotans of color view and access the state’s cultural amenities. We’ll highlight how the arts community is addressing the longstanding barriers to access and inclusion in the arts, and we’ll share how you can get involved.

- Jordi Garcia Leal was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. His mom decided to return to her native Mexico when he was 5 years old. Garcia Leal came back to the U.S. four years ago, and it wasn't a seamless transition.
While living with his sister in Minneapolis, the siblings had a falling out. As a result Garcia Leal ended up homeless. But someone had told him about CLUES, which provides services to the state’s Latino community. He reached out for help. Garcia Leal and his sister have since reconciled. CLUES is seeing more young people in situations similar to Garcia Leal’s, said Aliana Letrán-García, vice president of programs at CLUES, and are working to help them with employment, housing and more.
“There’s so many needs. It’s not only about a job or stable housing or food. It’s mental health issues; it’s about trauma,” Letrán-García said.
