- Multigenerational living was once commonplace in American culture. Today it's making a comeback -- thanks to the economic recession.
Unable to make ends meet, more and more adult children are moving back in with mom and dad. It's estimated that one-third of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 are now living with their parents or in-laws.
The financial benefits are hard to beat. But, as reporter Nikki Tundel found out, some still worry about the stigma associated with returning to the nest.

- From Chicago to Houston to South Portland, Maine, the urban chicken movement has taken hold. More and more city folks are raising the birds right in their own backyards. Some love the idea of fresh eggs; others appreciate the back-to-the-land aspect of tending to a flock.
There are animal rights advocates, however, who worry about the long-term welfare of the feathered fowl. As the number of city dwellers with chickens has risen, so has the number of birds being abused and abandoned. And local animal control departments are finding stray chickens everywhere from neighborhood alleys to downtown parking ramps.
In the midst of this all, one Minneapolis woman has taken on the chickens' cause. Mary Britton Clouse is the founder of Chicken Run Rescue, a rehabilitation center and foster home for hens and roosters. The long-time animal advocate has found adoptive families for over 600 needy birds.

When you apply Instant Runoff Voting to an election with multiple winners, things get complicated. Voters still rank their choices 1, 2, 3, etc., but figuring out the winners requires long division. Minneapolis elections officials will have to use math like this to figure out who will sit on its Park Board seats and the Board of Estimate and Taxation. The vote counting, which must be done by hand, is expected to take weeks.

Participants at the Ramsey House Finishing School for Young Ladies spent part of their school vacation studying the Victorian era -- a time of morals, modesty and manners. Instead of seasonal attire like swimsuits and flip flops, these girls donned corsets and petticoats. And rather than roasting marshmallows, they enjoyed formal tea parties.

- Elizabeth Strohfus was one of the first women in the United States to fly military planes. In 1942, the Minnesota native signed up for the newly formed Women's Air Force Service Pilots, or WASPs. The Women's Air Force Service Pilots received very little recognition for their service. But in July 2009, President Obama signed a bill to give the WASPs, including the 89-year-old Strophus, the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award given to civilians.

This video was shot over 3 days, May 26-28, 2009 as Blooming Saint Paul, Festival volunteers. and sound artist Philip Blackburn set up 33,000 flowers, 20 speakers and tile mosaic benches.
The pictures were taken 1 minute apart on 3 separate days. The sound you hear is an excerpt from the vegetable orchestra created by Blackburn with help from 9th-graders from Patrick Henry High School.
The exhibit is active May 29-31.
